MDA Lock-up

I'm being arrested on June 12 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Lock-up. I need to raise my bail ($1,200) before the Lock-up. Your 100% tax-deductible donation will help MDA to continue research into the causes and cures for 43 neuromuscular diseases. Your support of the lock-up will also help MDA to provide kids the opportunity to attend summer camp, as well as provide wheelchairs, clinic visits, and other medical necessities for people living with neuromuscular diseases. Did I mention it's 100% TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?! Every little bit helps, so please consider donating today!!

You can send your checks (made payable to MDA) to me:

Holly Harper

1306 W. Reardon St.

Midland, MI 48640

Or you can go online and donate via credit card!

My donation page

You can also e-mail or snailmail me your credit card information and I'll log it on my bail sheet, if your prefer not to use the internet to send your payment.

It's quick, it's easy, and you'll get a warm fuzzy feeling for donating! Just remember, I need the donation before June 12th!!!

Thanks in advance for your help and support of MDA!!

Holly

rants: money troubles

I know that everyone seems to be having financial troubles now, but I'm so frustrated. We've never been this bad off and it doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. I sometimes wonder how in the world people manage to get by. I know we have alot of luxuries right now (i.e. internet, cable.) I see those coming to an end soon, at least to some extent. If we cut back, perhaps we will be able to get slightly ahead. It just doesn't seem to happen quick enough. We've discussed moving to another state, but I feel like all our troubles would follow us. There's no guarantee that life would be better there. We've discussed having children. You know the saying, if you wait until you can afford them you'll never have them. I'd hate to bring a child into poverty, but at the same time, how do say no to the one dream you've had since you were a little girl? So many have told me to go to school to be a vet tech. I love animals and I love to help people, but I just don't know if I could pull it off. At least not in this town. We're not close enough to a college that would offer a program. Plus I don't know how in the world I'd afford school!! I know...this is just a jumbled mess of a blog, but I had to let it all out.

Stormy

So usually I post about Kolby's seizure, but this time it's about Stormy's. She's only had a handful of seizures in the last year, but this one was a little worse. She was beyond wobbley, she couldn't stand on her back legs at all. I started to give her baby food and she fell face first into the food. Poor girl. She was able to get a little stronger and support herself better, but I could tell that she just needed to sleep it off. So I bundled her up and laid her on my bed and snuggled. She's a good girl, despite her terrible cage climbing antics. ;-) But she's also an old girl at 8 years of age, and I have to prepare myself for the inevitable. On a side note I also noticed what I believe to be a mast cell tumor on her side. Typical scabby bump that freely moves. In any case, back to the seizure. She was laying in my bed and just looked like she was on death's door. I decided to make some scrambled eggs for dinner and came back to bed and guess who decided to snap out of her funk? She smelled those eggs and readily took piece after piece. ;-) Silly ferret. She's doing well today.

Darn that Archie!

Just thought I'd share a funny ferret story....

The other day I was laying on the bed while the ferrets were out playing and Archie of course started scratching on the side of the bed. Well I leaned over and told him no and he must not have liked that because he proceeded to look at me and then he grabbed my glasses right off my face and took off in a run! What a theif! Such a goof....I've never had one steal something directly from me before! lol

short staffed

Work is about to become just that. ;-) I work in a hotel and we're down on housekeepers due to stupidity and/or laziness. Ya know, just in time for us to get busy! But what are you gonna do? It never seems to fail. My co-workers and I have joked that maybe the place is cursed and that's why we can never seem to keep employees. I wonder......

cold

I'm so stinkin' tired of the cold weather!! I've learned my lesson this year on the absolute need to insulate the house for the winter. We're in an old house with no storm windows. How stupid is that? In any case, the heating bill has been outrageous since the temperature has dipped down to the single digits and the windchill has been negative. :(

I'm so ready for spring....

rants: just an animal rant

I guess I'll start of with a rant. ;-)

I'm so tired of seeing people looking for free animals on freecycle or other free classified ad sites. I'm also sick of people just dumping their animals because they're tired of them. What ever happened to being responsible? Why must we live in a throw-away society? Why are there people that think that animals are nothing more than an item you have in your house? Why don't more people feel like they're a member of the family?

I've seen so many people say they're getting rid of their animal because they're trying for a baby, having a baby, or already have a baby. Why?! Does trying for a baby take up all your time that you don't have time to do anything else? Sure you're tired after having a baby, but don't you think an animal can comfort you when you feel stressed out and overwhelmed with that little one?

Or how about the people that say they have to get rid of their animal because they're moving? Why because said city or state won't allow animals?! You know you have a pet so find a home that will allow them. If you're moving into your own home, what is your excuse?! You don't want to travel that far with your pet? You'd rather them be dumped with someone they don't know and possibly die from a broken heart?

Then there's the people that give up animals and then turn around and get new ones!! Hello??!! If it didn't work out for you before, then you shouldn't be trying this again!! What are you going to do in a couple of months when the newness wears off...oh...I know....you'll post the pet on freecycle.
