Today's the normal hydrogeology work day. Internet's gift to women.. . Snagged a Woot deal this morning right before work. . Yesterday was much more interesting. I was in the field most of the day, then on my way back to the office I stopped at the Yiddish Book Center! They're having a sale on all their books. So my major accomplishment yesterday was buying three books that I can't read. They're in yiddish of course, and someday I hope to be able to read them, but until then, they're fun to read. The three books are: Tevye and His Daughters by Shalom Aleichem, a yiddish geology text, and a cook book in, you guessed it, yiddish.I also called my grandparents in Florida to see if they wanted anything, but they said that the journal they get every month has yiddish stories, and that's enough to fulfill their ethnic requirements. "Ethnic requirements"...oh well. They grew up in the age of assimilation. They were able to survive and prosper in the US, but their ethnic language was the victim of assimilation. My Grandpa started his first day at school in Brooklyn speaking only yiddish. I can certainly understand why he doesn't support bilingual education..
