The fog had almost lifted by the time I got to this last one. My neighborhood is the "poor" section of one of the richest areas of the city. Unfortunately, like my father, most of the houses were inherited from richer parents by children who can't afford to keep them up and neglect them. Feelings.. . Though some are very proud of their homes and the area and work hard to keep their places spotless. Since the passing of the harsh new bankruptcy laws -- harsh on individuals, especially poor ones; easy on corporations, especially rich ones -- abandoned houses are beginning to dot the streets. Their are several down the block from me. These homes are large and costly, and no one is buying. Every month a few are offered in bankruptcy auctions. So sad. Perhaps one day they will be torn downandurban prairies will grow in their stead..

On the last dayof grade school,I said goodbyeto each houseas I passed, knowing thatI would never walkthe beloved familiarityof this route again.
