Leander gave me The History of Philosophy: Volume 4 Modern Philosophy: Decartes to Leibniz to read because I want to take a modern philosophy class in the fall, and I want to know everything going in. ;-) He hadn't read the book, so I offered to take notes for him. These are those notes:Chapter 1: Introduction (1-32)Continuity and novelty: the early phase of modern philosophy in its realtion to mediaeval and Renaissance thought--Continental rationalism: its nature, its relation to scepticism and neo-stoicism, its development--British Emiricism: its nature and development--The seventeenth century--The 18th century--political philosophy--The rise of the philosophy of history--Immanuel Kant.BeginningsContinuity between Mediaeval and post-mediaevel -Slow emergence of nation states-The emergence of the great monarchies-The growth of the middle class-Empirical science (Impetus Theory of Motion)-Philosophy gained recognition as its own course of study-Medieval philosophy anticipated post-mediaevel(nominalism---

I was just thinking about it, and I wanted to put in print what I was just thinking about the gals I asked to be bridesmaids in my wedding: They are the most awesome friends, and I am so glad that they are going to be in my wedding. Here's why:Heather-she is what brought this to mind. I told her I would call her about going shopping for flowers and suggested Tuesday. I ended up spending Tuesday running all over the world replacing the stuff that was in my wallet that was lost. I apologized on LJ for not calling her, and she didn't give me flack. Totally one of the most easy-going, understanding people I know.Christine-she is going through absolute hell, and she still wants to be my maid of honor and do traditional MOH duties. I can't go into details, but the fact that she even wants to take the time to buy a dress and walk down the isle is a wonder to me, but she has been an awesome support.Cassandra-she is in freaking New Jersey, and she wants to be just as involved as Christine and Heather, who are in CT. She's transfering to a new college this fall and juggling a full-time job, and she's still staying months ahead of schedule on everything. She calls like once a week to let me gripe about the problem stuff, and she's so totally encouraging.People often spend a lot of time complaining about their wedding party, but I'm definitely fortunate because I'd probably be a basket-case without these guys (and Leander, of course, but that goes without saying.)

1. Take five books off your bookshelf.2. Book #1 -- first sentence3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph:When in April the sweet showers fall and pierce the drought of March to the root, and all the veins are bathed in liquor of such power as brings about the endangered flower, when also ephyrus with his sweet breath exhales an air in every grove and heath upon the tender shoots, and the young sun his half-course in the sign of the ram has run and the small fowl are making melody that sleep away the night with one open eye (so nature pricks them and their heart engages); then people long to go on pilgrimages, and palmers seek the stranger strands of far-off saints hallowed in sundry lands and especially from every shire's end of England down to Canterbury the wend to see the holy blissful martyr, quick to give his help to them when they are sick. "Such is life. You can not love a fellow creature fully till you love God. Been a pleasure, miss, a pleasure." I took her hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first left the forge, so the evening mists were rising now, and in all the tranquil light they showed me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her. Book 1--Canterbury Tales, ChaucerBook 2--Waiting for Godott, BeckettBook 3--The Great Divorce, LewisBook 4--The Wingless Bird, CooksonBook 5--Great Expectations, Dickins

Debit card.License.~$100 Cash.Social security card.College ID.Receipts.Insurance card.Brigham and Woman's card.Gone. Absolutely gone.Leander and I ripped apart his parents' house, his car, my car, my parents' house, our luggage looking for it. Called everywhere we'd been this weekend. Took a flashlight to the parking lots and drive-ways. Everything. Not even a trace. So today, God bless his heart, Leander took me to the DMV for a replacement license, (which was paid for with the engagement money Mike gave us THANK GOD), and I trucked on over to Fleet to red tag the debit card and get a temp one. After getting no sleep and putting an endless supply of knots in my back and neck. All the while, Leander is missing work during THE most hectic time I've ever watched him go through all because a stupid little cassette tape shaped change purse. Not only am I sad that I lost all of those things, I feel like a complete dork for putting everyone through the ringer because of my stupidity.Heather-Sorry I didn't call you. I...yeah...I'm sorry.
