enya's marble halls
I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls
with vassals and serfs at my side,
and of all who assembled within those walls
that I was the hope and the pride.
I had riches all too great to count
and a high ancestral name.
But I also dreamt which pleased me most
that you loved me still the same,
that you loved me
you loved me still the same,
that you loved me
you loved me still the same.

I dreamt that suitors sought my hand,
that knights upon bended knee
and with vows no maiden's heart could withstand,
they pledged their faith to me.
And I dreamt that one of that noble host
came forth my hand to claim.
But I also dreamt which charmed me most
that you loved me still the same
that you loved me
you loved me still the same,
that you loved me
you loved me still the same.
mere morality
the way to inevitable failure is mere morality. one will always find a reason to justify that which s/he does outside of the moral fence s/he built around her/his soul and swore to religiously abide
standing on firm ground
had dinner with my two classmates last night. it was really heartening to hear one of them say that his topmost priority is his family. for that reason, he ain't planning on pursuing doctorate studies. he's 33 and all that he wants upon completing his master's is to be with his family- to be a father to his 2 kids and to be a husband to his wife. wow! impressive!

i said, with that kind of perspective, he has his ground firmly secured. don't you think so?

***

my prof, during our latest nomikai, said that my country is one of the most westernized in asia (and among the least developed). he said we must be able to stand on our feet and our feet are in asia so, be more asian. ouch!
Da Vinci Code? What's all the fuss?
Haven't read the book but I heard it's so controversial that the Catholic Church is all stirred up about it. In fact, in some Catholic countries, the debate is so loud that the movie adaptation might not at all be shown there.

Maybe I am not informed enough to post a comment on it. But humbly I say that if the book (and the movie) dispels the Church and its teachings of their essence, well, that's serious.

The book I believe suggests that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had an affair and that Mary, the Mother of Christ, is not a virgin.

Wooohhh...

To some maybe it's just fiction. Therefore, it shouldn't be taken seriously. Besides, isn’t it the essence of freedom that the people get to express their views without being stigmatized. But I think liberal espousal of such thinking, inconsiderate of other people's creed, poses great threat to societal order and institutions.

To Christians, that is plain blasphemy, desecration of the very core of their faith.

Freedom (of thought or intellectual discourse or creation) is good so long as it is exercised in a manner that does not transgress over other people's belief system.

If it does, it's very dangerous and must therefore be quelled.

But how?

Is it right to prohibit the movie’s showing? What of the people’s right to know? Freedom to choose the movies they want to watch? He he. Sounds like a child’s argument to a parent, huh? Okay, so that’s a false analogy because the citizens are adults, capable of thinking for themselves, and are not infantile viewers. They can filter information which are helpful for them, and they can always discard as rubbish those which are, in fact.

Nonetheless, the Church has all the reason and intent to protect itself. If it finds the movie perilous such that it might tarnish it’s fold of profane ideas, then by all means, it must do all it can to, at the very least, limit the movie’s viewers. Alongside with that move, it must take the challenge reeducating its believers about the crux of their faith so as to keep them strong in their conviction.

Incompleteness

He that is made in the image of God must know Him or be desolate....Witness the dissatisfaction, yea, desolation of my soul-wretched,alone,unfinished,without Him.It cannot act from itself, save in God;acting from what seems itself without God,is no action at all,it is a mere yielding to impulse. All within is disorder and
spasm. There is a cry behind me,and a voice before;instincts of betterment tell me I must rise above my present self:I see not how to obey, how to carry them out!I am shut up in a world of consciousness,an unknown I in an unknown world:surely this world of my unwilled, unchosen, compelled existence, cannot be shut out from Him,cannot be unknown to Him,cannot be impenetrable, impermeable, unpresent to Him from whom I am?

-CS Lewis
first and last love
You have never had it. All the things that have ever deeply possessed your soul have been but hints of it- tantalizing glimpses, promises never quite fulfilled, ECHOES THAT DIED AWAY JUST AS THEY CAUGHT YOUR EAR. But if it should really become manifest- if there ever came an echo that did not die away but welled into the sound itself- you would know it. Beyond possibility of doubt you would say, "Here at last is the thing I was made for...." If we lose this, we lose all.

-C.S. Lewis
thrill of travel
the thrill of seeing places is getting to me now. i'm kinda enthused lately by mere thoughts of visiting other nations and knowing more about their culture and history.

it kind of makes me understand better my place in the world and helps me situate my country's position and role in its affairs.

you are God's special child...
"You are God's special child," you said.
I replied, "So are you!"
I smiled, you were not expecting such a response.
Your shock, you didn't care to hide.
You nod, your heart was light.
So was mine.
And we understood, amidst unspoken words, how we both want to assure each other that everything's gonna be alright- if not great- under His loving guidance.
we can always strive
we can always strive to get as close to perfect. if it's God's will and intention that we try to emulate Him, why can't we expand that same analogy to society and heaven?

okay, so marx didn't believe in God. but does that falsify the entire theory? ad hominem. we can always discard what we don't believe in and accept what we think is good.

nothing's wrong with trying to attain a perfect, classless society.
There is none like You
There is none like You
No one else can touch my heart like You do
I could search for all eternity long and find,
There is none like You.
One Flaw In Women*

>By the time the Lord made woman,
>He was into his sixth day of working overtime.
>An angel appeared and said,
>"Why are you spending so much time on this one?"
>
>And the Lord answered, "Have you seen my spec sheet on her?
>She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200
>movable
>parts, all replaceable
>and able to run on diet coke and leftovers, have a lap that can hold
>four
>children at one time,
>have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken
>heart and
>
>she will do everything with only two hands."
>
>The angel was astounded at the requirements.
>"Only two hands!? No way! And that's just on the standard model? That's
>too
>much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish."
>
>But I won't," the Lord protested. "I am so close to finishing this
>creation
>
>that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she
>is
>sick AND can work 18 hour days."
>
>The angel moved closer and touched the woman.
>"But you have made her so soft, Lord."
>
>"She is soft," the Lord agreed, "but I have also made her tough. You
>have no
>
>idea what she can endure or accomplish."
>
>"Will she be able to think?", asked the angel.
>
>The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able
>to
>reason and negotiate."
>
>The angel then noticed something, and reaching out, touched the woman's
>cheek.
>"Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model. I told you that
>you
>were trying to put too much into this one."
>
>"That's not a leak," the Lord corrected, "that's a tear!"
>
>"What's the tear for?" the angel asked.
>
>The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow,
>her
>pain, her disappointment, her love, her loneliness, her grief and her
>pride."
>
>The angel was impressed.
>"You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Woman is truly
>amazing."
>And she is!
>
>Women have strengths that amaze men.
>They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness,
>love
>and joy.
>They smile when they want to scream.
>They sing when they want to cry.
>They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
>They fight for what they believe in.
>They stand up to injustice.
>They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better
>solution.
>They go without so their family can have.
>They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
>They love unconditionally.
>They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get
>awards.
>They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
>Their hearts break when a friend dies.
>They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when
>they
>think there is no strength left.
>They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
>Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
>They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care
>about
>
>you.
>The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
>They bring joy, hope and love.
>They have compassion and ideals.
>They give moral support to their family and friends.
>Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
>
>However, if there is one flaw in women, it is that sometimes, they forget their worth
