Now for some cover versions. This one is quite a recent tune, and is called "Violet hill". It's taken from the latest Coldplay album entitled "Viva la vida".
I had several Coldplay songs lined up to cover, and I chose this as the first of the batch. It was extremely hard to get the falsetto on this song, so I dropped the music by a semitone. Even then I still struggled, but I just about managed it.
It's been a bit noisy above my village this past weekend. I live quite near to a place called Goodwood. They hold a number of annual events and one of them is called "The festival of speed". So while it was on, I snapped a few of the aircraft from my back garden. I've put those in the video. All I will say is that one aircraft in particular got extremely close, and it wasn't the smallest flying object in the world!!!
Check out my cover of this brilliant song, and see my snaps:
The Youtube numbers are still rolling along like a steamroller.
I now have 721 subscribers in total.
Channel views are up to 16,254.
The overall video views are so close now. 249,532. Barring disasters, it will pass the quarter of a million tomorrow :)
My next one will probably be another Coldplay song. There's a track on one of their albums that I've always wanted to sing :)
This is the third of my old original songs selection. This is a song called "Winner". The words can be interpreted in different ways, but the meaning I attach to it is for mistaken friends who need support.
This song was also co-written with Mick Paul. I finish off with details about what mick is up to now in his music career.
If you watched the last vid I posted, you will have learned that Mick played bass on a David Hasselhoff single. There aren't many people who don't know who he is. He's been in smash hit shows such as "Knight rider", "Baywatch" and "America's got talent".
Here is "Winner":
Mick is spending a good deal of his time touring at the moment, with a band called "The David Cross band". David Cross used to be in a band called "King Crimson". They had quite a big following. If you come from Italy, you might have heard of David Cross. He's quite popular there, and hence the reason why Mick does most of his touring there.
Now here's the regular Youtube numbers update.
My subscribers have seen a really good jump in the last few days. Racing past the 700 barrier to 717.
The channel views have rolled along to 16,017. Another barrier broken.
Last but by no means least. The total video views. They are 246,003. I hoped that they might possibly get to the quarter of a million by the 17th July. Which is the 1st year anniversary of my the first vid I uploaded on Youtube. At this rate, it looks like it's going to get there on the 15th!!
I'd like to get a few Coldplay covers done for my next videos, and I'll hopefully be bringing some more news on the progress of my upcoming album release.
I've created a mailing list for album news. The email addresses will only be used for that purpose. It's so I can inform interested parties about events regarding the album, before I post the info anywhere else.
If anyone is interested in signing up for it then you can do just that if you go to the homepage on my website. Here's the URL:
It's the 2nd of 3 songs written by Mick Paul and I a while back, that I have chosen to put on youtube. Ths one shows off Mick's Bass skills a bit. I just wanted acoustic guitar and Bass in this, and I think it worked quite well. The vocals are a little off key in places. This song, and most of the others written with Mick. were written hours before they were recorded, so I'm not that surprised at the mistakes in the mix.
The song is about a contreversial subject, though I'm not going let you know what it means here. You'll have to watch the vid to find out. I reveal the meaning near the end of the video. It gives a completely new angle on the words.
Getting back to Mick. Here's some information on this very talented guy:
He performed on 2 singles in 1970.
Joined "The Hotshots" in 1973. They had a number 4 hit.
Joined "Union express" in 1974 and toured Europe for 2 years.
From 1978, he did some session work for the B.B.C. and for a various number of publishers.
He was also an in-house bass player at Abbeydale studios in West London.
He co-wrote the Labour Party campaign song in 1987.
Joined "More tea vicar in 1990.
He wrote and performed on a single called "Aquarius" for Yello records, produced by Tyrrell.
He played bass on the "David Hasselhoff" single "If we could only say goodbye" (Yes. It's The Hoff).
and more..
I'll give a web link to his recording studio in West Worthing, southern England:
Mick is the person doing all the music in this song. He also did the music for the song in the previous post, and the next post I do.
Anyway. This one is called "Losing my mind". I hope you enjoy it, and the Bass :)
Now for the Youtube stuff.
A rise in my subs to 692.
The Channel views are 15,540.
The overall vid views are 237,970. Still on target to hit a quarter of a million by the 17th of July. climbing at about a thousand views a day.
Coming next is the third of the old original songs, featuring Mick Paul.
I'm still working hard on the album. I had a song in my head, as I was waking up yesterday. A strange way to discover a song, but I thought it was very good. So I'm going to put it together to see what it sounds like, and if it's good enough, it can go on the album.
I'm going to step back in time a bit with 3 selected songs I wrote when I first started recording seriously.
A few years ago I wrote and recorded 9 songs in about two weeks with a very talented guy called "Mick Paul".
Mick plays a mean Bass Guitar and has been busy in his career up to now. He also owns his own recording studio, and this is where those 9 songs were recorded.
I've selected 3 of those 9 songs to put on youtube, and this one is the first of those choices.
This one is called "Amber falls". It's a pretty dark song. I wonder if you can work out what the song is about, before the video tells you near the end.
Here it is:
I have put some snippets of info about Mick in this first video, and I will be adding more to the following 2 videos. There may be a name or two that some music lovers might recognise.
I added a warning in the video description of this particular song, because the song has what is known as "Speaker busters". They are very deep and loud bass hits, that can possibly cause some damage to a bass speaker when it's on high volume. So be warned :)
Now for a youtube update.
I only need another 10 subs to get to 700. So the current figure is 690.
The channel viewings have increased to 15,424.
My total video viewings are 235,621. At this rate, I might get to the quarter of a million by the first anniversary of my first video upolad to youtube.
Coming next is the second of these three old original songs.
It has been a mad rush week. I've done some work on my own website, so that I can get it ready for the release of the album. I've changed some of the information. Put some more links in. I have also added an email registration on my home page, so that anyone can register for updates on the progress of the album.
I pointed out that the email address will only be used for album updates, and will not be given to anyone else. I have also added that same registration feature to another website I have a page on.
So now I can finally give out my website address. I've had it for a few years already, but it's just been sitting there :)
You will find a player on there that has a number of songs that I've written over the past 4 years. I could have removed them, because the recording quality is not very good on some, and the vocals are less than perfect on a number of them. However, I want them to stay there for a while to show how everything started. Including all the mistakes and flaws.
The next bit of news is really interesting. I was contacted by a friend on Youtube, who had started up a live internet TV channel, and he asked if he could feature my tracks on his shows. I agreed, of course. He informed that when the first show aired, it received over 1,000 viewers in the first 3 hours!!!
He needs some more original music videos for his TV channel, so if you compose your own songs, and would like it broadcast on a live internet television channel, then visit the link I've provided above and contact him via the email address that is shown on the channel. It could provide you with some essential exposure, just like it has for me :)
Last but not least. The Youtube number counts.
I gained 2 subscribers, but then I lost 2 :( So it's still 681.
The channel views are now at 15,146.
There has been another few thousand views to all of my videos so that figure now stands at 229,501.
There has been another cover version done of one of my own songs. The tune this time is "Broadcast fantasy".
It was performed by "PetesBehr" on Youtube. His recording of this song is a bit like an unplugged version.
This guy has covered another one of my songs in the past.
This is quite different from the original, but I quite like what he's done with it. It's interpreted in a completely different way, and that's what I like to see people doing with songs. Especially my songs. Putting their own influence into it.
First up, is the Original version of "Broadcast fantasy". Check it out at the following link:
So now you know how the original goes. This is his cover of my song:
It feels good when other people like your songs enough to want to record their own versions. It makes me feel like I'm doing something right :)
Now, it's the Youtube update:
I have now got 681 subscribers. Only another 19 to go to get to 700.
My channel views have raced forward to 15,037.
The total viewings for all of my videos are 227,028. Only another 23k to the quarter of a million, and it's moving at about a thousand a day at the moment.
I have been doing a bit of work on my personal website over the last week. I thought that if I'm going to release an album, I might as well bring my site up to date. So I'm changing the info on there. I'll be pumping out the URL when I'm happy that it's ready, for anyone who may be interested :)
I decided to take a few days break from putting the album together, and I recorded a requested song, from a while ago. It's one I've always wanted to do because on the surface it seems such a simple song, but it has so much room for expression. The song I'm talking about is "No surprises" by "Radiohead".
The making of the vid was pretty easy. Not much going on in it. I'm just sitting in and out of a shadow, through the entire song. The video to the original is just the singers head, nit what looks like a space helmet to me, filling up with some water. I didn't use any water though.
Instead, I decided to think about different events in my life while singing, so my facial expressions would go through subtle changes.
This is the final outcome:
The latest numbers on my Yotube account.
677 subscribers.
14,891 channel viewings.
224,885 total video viewings.
It would probably be a good idea for me to get back to making the album now :)
I'm going to make a short list of three other songs and put them to a vote. So effectively, the fourth will be chosen by voters.
I have finished two of the other songs up to now. The titles are "You think it's all over". Which is a different version of a song I wrote 2 years ago. The original was played on Spirit FM which covers West Sussex. The second of those songs is "Soaked to the bone". I finished that one yesterday.
So just 4+ songs to go. I've got some tracks in mind. Some of them have been half developed so hopefully they wont take too long. It would be nice if I could finish them by the end of next week, but it will probably take me longer.
OK. Here's my Youtube tip.
For those of you who upload songs in stereo to Youtube, and get disappointed when the audio comes out in mono, and lower quality. You might find it interesting to know that Youtube do have a higher quality version of your video.
When you provide a link for your video, you will normally specify a URL. To get the higher quality version, all you have to do is append "&fmt=18" to the URL. I suppose it's possible to do that with the embedding as well, but I haven't attempted that yet.
Here's an example for you. This is a link to one of my original songs:
I was trying to find ways to bump up my daily Youtube viewing figures, when I happened upon a tool that they have in Beta at the moment. It's called "Annotations".
It allows you to add linking text or hotspots to your videos. When I watch videos on youtube, I don't normally pay much attention to what else is on that web page. As a video author, that's not good news. With this little toy, I can put a link on my video, and there's a good chance that it's going to be noticed.
So I went through most of my videos and added annotations that link back to my channel. It took me a long time. They've only been on for a day, but I've already seen a hike in traffic. Especially to my channel viewings. So it appears that it is working so far.
This is a link to my Channel on Youtube. Where most of the Annotations point to:
So here are my latest Youtube figures, followed by some news :)
I now have a total of 662 Subscribers.
The channel viewings are moving now and currently stand at 14,509.
My overall video views are 216,799. It's looking like the quarter of a million figure will be passed before the end of July.
Now for a bit of news. I'm releasing an album!
It will be release for digital sales only to begin with. If it provides enough revenue, then It's likely that the money will be invested in a CD release, and some promotion.
The album will consist of some of the tracks I've uploaded to Youtube, and a good number of songs that haven't been heard yet. I'm feeling quite excited by it all. Just the fact that it's being released. I'll keep my blog up to date with the progress as the release date gets nearer. Giving info on selected tracks etc :)
This is a bit of an update on the last post I put up. I recently uploaded a new song to Youtube, and the response exceeded my expectations. The name of the song was "Broadcast fantasy". It was a bit of an amusing poke at addiction to television.
My honours for this video were more than I thought they would be, and there were a couple of firsts too. Literally.
Basically, Youtube has an honours system. Which works on a daily, weekly, monthly and all time basis. They have top 100's for Most viewed, Top rated, Most discussed, Top favourites, Most responded, and a few more on top of that. There is an overall set of top 100's that are worldwide, and then there are those that are divided into countries. These are also subdivided into categories. So you could have a video in the top 100 Most discussed of all videos in the world, or you could have one in the top 100 most discussed Music video in the UK.
It's easier to get into the top 100's of some countries because there are less people using Youtube in those countries. The U.S. has to be the most difficult, and the U.K. is pretty difficult too. Which makes my achievement sweeter :)
I regularly get honours for each video I upload, and this is because I have a decent amount of subscribers and friends to my Youtube channel, but the last video I uploaded topped them all. I got my first number 1. Not just one, but two!
#1 - Top Rated (Today) - Music (United Kingdom)
#1 - Most Discussed (Today) - Music (United Kingdom)
That was on the 4th June. I was so pleased with them, that I put them in the video description.
This is the latest on my youtube figures.
Subscribers - 651
Channel views - 14,196
Overall video views - 211,513
I've got some interesting news coming up in my next few posts. Something I'm getting quite excited about :)
I was in the middle of writing another song when I came up with the idea for this one. So I halted progress on the initial song to develop it. It's a song called "Broadcast fantasy".
Well, i've just gone past the one year membership on Youtube, and I thought this would be a really fitting song to upload in celebration of my first year. It's a tongue-in-cheek look at TV addiction. As Youtube is all about videos, it seemed the perfect choice.
The style of this song is again different from my previous compositions. I think this one sits more in the pop arena.
Check it out here:
I put this video up less than a day ago, and the response so far is very good. Lots of lovely honours :)
So back to the numbers. Here's the Youtube latest.
There are now 639 subscribers to my Channel.
My channel has now been seen 13,842 times, and the combine viewings of all my videos are now 205,218.
I'm aiming to make the song I was originally working on, my next upload. Though I have been known to change my mind at the last moment :)
I'm going off track a little here to talk about a certain European song contest. Music being my priority.
I watched the Eurovision song contest last night. The only reason I watched it was to be entertained by the commentary of Terry Wogan.
Those not in Europe may not be aware of this competition, but in Europe, it's normally a big event.
The overall result was of little surprise to me. With neighbour countries having a habit of casting votes for each other. Especially what I like to call Eastern Bloc Europe. So Russia won it this year. What a surprise!
I had to laugh when one judge said "The best song in Europe", and one of the judges unknowingly got very close to the truth when they said it was a "Great concert", because a concert is pretty much all it was. It certainly isn't a fair competition any more. Terry Wogan said that by the way. He is even considering abandoning the competition, I mean concert.
Am I sore that the British song came joint last with votes from ony 2 countries? No, I'm very shocked though, because I considered it one of the best 5 songs, and I would like to think that I know a bit about music.
It's even more astounding if you look at all the European music charts. There's always British and American songs in there somewhere. And why is that? Well, because it's cutting edge.
I thought it was between Turkey and Norway for the title. Turkey's song was a modern sound, that was not too far removed from a band called Muse, and for pure songwriting craft, you have to give it to Norway. It's some consolation that they got into the top 10. The British song was a pretty good song, and also deserved to be in the top 10. My sympathy to Poland and Germany too (The Polish entry was pretty good) who were holding up the table with us. I wonder when Europe started seeing them as politically close to the UK? Political, you hear me cry?
That's what I said. I've come up with a new name for the competition. The Eurovision Political Popularity Contest. Well, it's certainly not about the merits of the compositions. I think that was made blindingly obvious last night.
So what do I think of Europe?
I adore it, and would love to travel to all the European nations in my life, and enjoy time with indigenous population. I'm just a normal individual who loves people and doesn't colour them for the deeds of their fellow countrymen.
You can accept or refute my views. I wouldn't say I am qualified to pass judgement on that show. After all, I'm only a Songwriter :)
Well, it's almost a year on Youtube now, and I've been thinking about what I've achieved so far. In my opinion, not very much. In relation to lots of others, the Youtube progress is probably quite good, but not as far as my aspirations are concerned. I'm only about 250 subscribers outside the top 100 UK musicians of all time. That appears to be great, but it's not supported me financially at all.
I'm a singer/songwriter. I write what I think are pretty good songs, and that's been confirmed by some good friends and music industry professionals. I consider that at the age of 42, I'm not a teenager anymore. So I'm not aiming to be a performer. The logical route is for me to write songs, and then push them out to signed bands. In the hope that they would want to record some of my material. It doesn't matter what age you are. As long as you write good songs that people will want to sing.
This all came about from seeing the Jonathan ross show yesterday evening. The featured guest was Mr Neil Diamond. He started his career as a songwriter. Writing great songs, such as "I'm a believer", which was a hit for "The Monkees". I'd be more than happy with 1 percent of Neil's success. Out of all singers in this world. My voice has been compared the most to Neil Diamond.
So I'm not throwing in the towel yet. It's true that the longer you make an effort. The more credible you become to the music industry. The more tunes you compose, the greater the chance of someone important wanting to use them. I've written and recorded over 100 songs, but I've only made about 20 of them public. At this very moment I'm writing another new one!
Here's some advice for aspiring songwriters. Don't ever give up. It might come to nothing, but at least if you try. You'll know whether you could have made it or not. That's much better than not knowing at all, and looking back and wondering what if?
If you don't have good financial backing, then it can be a massive sacrifice. You can get to a point where you have almost nothing at all. If you are determined, then you will not let that affect your efforts.
I'm going to finish this post with a link to my Youtube channel, and the current Youtube stats.
Here's my Youtube channel. You can check out some of my original material on there.
I am currently working on writing a new song, so the next few posts will not contain any new videos. I thought it would be a good idea to mention some of my comments and messages, because I get so many of them now.
First, the "Fun with faces" vid. There are now 8 responses to it, and more people said they would be posting responses. This is so much fun. If you've joined Youtube, and want to have a go at it too then please do. Please post it as a response to my video. The link to it is below:
This has been my best perfoming video, as far as the honours are concerned. At one stage it had 20. The honour that surprises me the most is that the video is in the top 100 Most responded comedy videos in the UK, of all time!!!!
Amazing!!
I had a comment a few days ago from someone telling me that I look like a guy called "Miroslav skoro". I've never heard of the guy. So I did a quick search. It turns out that he is a Croatian singer. It's hard to compare yourself to someone else. I just can't see any likeness at all. The only comparison I can draw it that the hair is quite similar in some vids.
Well, how's things going on the stats front.
616 subscribers now and my channel views are now 13,110. I've noticed an increase in the speed of those in the past week. The overall video views are now at 191,821. The way the numbers are climbing at the moment, I think I'm looking at less than 2 weeks before it hits the 200k mark.
On June 2nd, I will have been a Youtube member for 1 year. I'm going to try and get my new song ready by then. It's going to be interesting to see what the second year will bring.
The fun with faces video I uploaded has had a really good reaction. As I explained in my last post, I saw a Website used on television and wanted to have a go at it myself, and make a video out of it. I encouraged other Youtubers to morph their own pictures and then post their own video as a response to mine.
I've had six responses so far, and each of them are hilarious. Here are the 6 users that have responded to my video so far.
gersing
UpDownMostly
beachfrontal
grandplans
Midnightsongstress7
yeuxlumineuxNtx
You can take a look at their responses by visiting my vid, and then clicking on the responses shown underneath it.
I've discovered in the last day, the web site has adding more transformation options, since I did mine.
I might do another post update if I get a good few more responses. I am having great fun with all this, plus it helps get a little more exposure for my music :)
I was watching Graham Norton the other night on T.V. and he went on a website that transformed faces into different ages and races. Such as an Afro-Caribean and a Manga cartoon. All you have to do is upload a front facing jpg of yourself, and you are ready to go. I didn't hesitate to do it myself, and put the resulting images on my Youtube channel.
I set it as a challenge to the Youtube community. Requesting that they do exactly the same as me with their own pictures. Then post them as a video response to my one. That way, we could have a collection of funny faces all in one place.
I wanted to use music as a background to the slideshow, so I found another old song I wrote, and used that. The song is called "I understand". That way I could show another of my unheard songs, whilst having fun at the same time.
Go take a look at my video to see what transformations were made to my photo:
As per normal. Here's some youtube stats.
My subs have breezed past the 600 barrier and are now 605.
Channel views are 12,798.
My total video views are getting real close to the 200k mark now, and currently stand at 186,136. I estimate is should take around 2 to 3 weeks to get there.
The reaction to the last cover I did, "Yellow" by "Coldplay" was really good. It got a good burst of viewings in the first few days. Over 800.
That was the most requested song on my list. Now on to the second most requested song. This one is quite a recent song, and is by a top group called Travis. The title of the song is Closer, and it's off of their latest album.
I had a few ideas for the video, but I wanted to save the best ones for my original songs. So I ended up making a video for this, which was humorous. The opening sequence on this video, really gave my video editing software a run for its money. I'm pleased with it though.
See what you think of my rendition of Closer by Travis. I hope you enjoy the humour in the video. I was laughing whilst making it.
I've uploaded a number of vids in the past few weeks, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the growth in my Youtube figures so far. My subs are now up to 597. Only 3 more to get to 600.
The channel viewings are now up to 12,631 and there have been a total of 183,585 viewings of my videos.
This is the 67th video, which has recently been uploaded. This is a Coldplay song of their first album "Parachutes". Quite a few people have requested that I cover this tune, so it is high time I did it.
I used to sing this song quite a lot, and it's a favourite of some of my personal friends. I find Coldplay songs enjoyable to sing because of the scope for versatility in the vocals, and the opportunity for falsetto, and this song is not short on that.
See what you think:
Well the numbers are still steadily rising on Youtube. Here's the latest.
My subs are now up to 589. Not far away from 600 now.
12,360 Channel views, and an overall video view count of 178,166. I should pass the 200,000 within a month, the way things are going.
A number of my Youtube friends recommended that I apply for the Youtube partnership program. Well, i did, and got politely turned down. It seems that I don't have enough original material, or enough regular traffic to my channel yet, to justify inclusion. I shall keep on trying :)
In 1995 at 23 minutes past 1 in the morning, my daughter came into this world. And this year she becomes a teenager. It has been a fantastic thirteen years, filled with wonderful memories for me. Over that time I've gone through a lot of pictures and video, and I'm so glad I did. It's all there for me to re-visit, and live the memories again.
So many people have been mesmerised by my daughter. Probably because of her remarkable eyes. Lol. Maybe I think that because I am her father. All parents think their own children are the most beautiful creatures on earth. I most certainly do :)
One of the things I am most proud of, is that she has a beautiful nature too. That's a rare thing. She is totally unselfish, and would give what she has to make others happy. She doesn't ever ask me for anything except my company.
My daughter has also started writing poetry, which is something I did as a child. Even better. One of her poems has been selected for publication in a book of childrens works. Onla a few have been chosen from her school. That makes me feel really proud.
I decided to change 2 words from a great song called "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies. I changed the line "Making love to you" to "Making part of you". I sung it, and put together some clips of my daughters first year of life.
Enjoy the song, and those eyes :)
These are the up to date numbers on my Youtube channel.
I decided I should start putting up a string of cover versions. It's an attempt to try and put a dent in my request list. There's little hope of ever getting to the end of it though. There is currently more than a hundred songs on it, and that number keeps on climbing. The probelm is that I get about 4 or 5 request for every song I do.
I thought I'd change the way I do things with my covers. Rather than singing in front of camera, I will be recording the songs first, and then I will make the videos for those songs at another time. This should hopefully result in me getting better quality. It also means that I can make the videos a little bit more interesting.
So the first one I chose to do was "Tears in heaven" by Eric Clapton. An emotional song by Eric. Following the death of his son. I can't imagine the sadness that must have been in his heart, and probably still is.
Here is my rendition of this song.
The Youtube figures are as follows.
Subs = 569
Channel Viewings = 11884
Total Views = 171739
I've got a load more covers to put up. I haven't decided which one on the list is going to be next. I'll be recording a number of them. Then I will select from that bunch :)
Having posted videos to Youtube for nearly a year. One thing I noticed was that audio and video quality were limited. If I uploaded a video with good quality stereo audio, youtube would convert down to mono and reduce it's quality. I managed to get around it with a free video converter, Which allowed me to encode flash videos, and adjust the video and audio quality.
Recently, Youtube have started to cater for higher quality video and audio though.
This was the issue that got me looking around for other websites that hosted videos, and I found one called Livevideo. I made a decision to only upload my original songs to that site. It doesn't have anywhere near the amount of traffic that Youtube gets, but I was ok with that. If people like my songs, and want to hear them in higher qaulity, then i can send them there.
OK this one's really fresh. I only uploaded it a short while ago!!
It's an original song that I put together over the last week or so.
So far, with my original material, the videos are made up of images, in the style of a slideshow. This one is different. This is the first time I've made a sort of movie out of one of my own songs. I wanted to theme the video on the meaning of the song, and I reckon I've managed to achieve that.
The name of the song is "Don't wish it away". It's about those that want the days and years to be over. Maybe it's grief, or impatience. Or maybe something else. You'll notice things vanishing, and events going back to front. There's something symbolic in that.
Check out my new song:
These are the latest numbers on my youtube channel.
My subscribers are at a nice round 550.
The viewings of my channel are now 11,329, and the overall viewing figures all of my videos are now at 162,129.
I was thinking about doing a cover version next. There are three song I want to do. They are "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies, "Running on faith" by Eric Clapton or "My father's eyes", also by Eric Clapton.
So now I've reached the sixty third vid. Finally I've got up to date with my videos.
This is an original song by me, called "Sight Or Sound".
I have written poetry since I was a child, and one of my favourite things to do, was to make puzzles out of my poems, and hide meanings and subtleties within the words.
So it's no surprise really, that those elements ended up in some of my songs. This song is a good example of that. In the description, I ask people to work out what the song means, and if they can discover all the links within the song and the video. I have only given the answers to those that have asked. I like it that some know, and some don't.
This was a song that I wrote early last year, and it features a very good friend of mine, and a very accomplished guitar player. He is "Steve Morgan". He has just got married, so I wish him the best for the future.
So I hope you enjoy the song, and the wonderful skills of Steve.

So I got there in the end. I've caught up with my video releases. So I can't really say what the next post is about, because I don't know myself yet. I'll know once I've decided what song to upload. Hmmm. An original, or maybe a cover :)
This next number was a collaborative effort with a Canadian musician. Before I started posting videos on Youtube, I was writing songs with various people, and he was one of them. He writes a lot of music, and was eager to co-write songs with other people. So he did the music, and I put the words and vocal melody to the ones that inspired me. It's a bit like Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Only without the success :)
We got through several songs, and we both quite liked the final results. In july, last year, I started posting up my videos to Youtube. Very ealy this year, I started to encourage my canadian musical friend to start posting his own music up to Youtube as well. He has grown very quickly on there, and that's no surprise to me. He is very talented.
Getting around to the song. He posted a composition, and asked if anybody would like to put words to it. It inspired me, so I worked on the lyrics and vocal melody, and I called the result "Traffic signals". With a lot of my videos, I've used images, and the images in this video are related to the meaning of the song.
So here it is:
If you want to check out some of his compositions, just search for 'Songvibe' on Youtube. He has loads more good material uploaded.
As per usual. This is the latest on the stats.
539 Subscribers. Still on the climb.
There are 11,121 channel views.
156,734 total video views.
Looking forward to the next one. It's an Original song that features a very good friend of mine, and an excellent guitarist.
I've been away from the computer for most of last week. My grandmother died a couple of weeks ago, and the funeral was a couple of days ago. I loved her dearly, but I cannot deny that she had a long life. She reached the ripe old age of 93.
Last year I was doing a bit of music collaboration with a Swedish guy called Ulf. He is extremely talented, and had retired from gigging. He is now concentrating on composing, and is currently providing music for film and television. I would say that the main area of his music is electronic. There was a song I completed with him, which was his music, and my words. This isn't that song though. I only mention it because he wanted to have a go at doing the music for this song. It's something we didn't get around to doing, so this is totally by me. The name of the song is "Take me home".
It's about someone who has made a big mistake in a relationship, that caused it to break. In the song, the person is appealing to their partner.
Have a listen, and see what you think.
Back to the stats.
I've got 534 Subscribers now. They are still climbing consistently.
The channel views are now up at 11,121.
My overall video views are now 154,447.
My next post is about a collaboration with a good friend and extremely talented musician in Canada.
Now for something a little different. Last year, a friend of mine challenged me to take a Beatles song and write a different version of it. The rules were that I couldn't pick any of their hit songs. I had to choose a lesser known song from one of their albums. I listened to all of their albums, and picked 10 possible songs out of all of them. Then I whittled it down to just one.
Penning my own material is normally quite easy, but this was more challenging than I initially thought. With my own songs I can hear the full arrangement in my head, and all I have to do is to bring that into reality. However, with this song. It already had music to it, and I had to try and forget the original music, so that I could come up with my own. It took a while, but I got there in the end.
See what you think:
My next video is another of my Original songs. One I wrote last year.
Almost up to a nice round 60 videos. This one is the 59th that I put up on youtube. This is one of those songs that is quite memorable. The reason for that is that it's quite a different song. It is "Mmm mmm mmm mmm" by the "Crash test dummies". Any of you that know the song, will know that the vocals in it are pretty low. A perfect opportunity for me to test out the depths of my vocal ability.
This is what it ended up like:
At the beginning of the video, I mention someone called "Tay Zonday". Anybody that has done the Youtube rounds will have probably heard of him. He became famous for a song he put on Youtube called "Chocolate rain". The song is nothing special, but his voice is something you cannot forget. It is a surprise to see that sort of voice come out of his frame. He appears very much like a student, but when he starts to sing. This low thunderous sound comes out. Very low :)
This is what is happening with my Youtube stuff at the moment.
I now have 522 Subscribers. A slight increase on last time.
The channel viewings are slightly up at 11,048.
My total video views are still moving forward well, and are currently at 148,768.
Only a couple of weeks and will have caught up with my videos. Then I can post to my blogs as I release the videos. The next of my videos was a challenge set by a friend last year. I've had such a backlog of requests, that I only got around to doing it recently. The clue is "The Beatles"
This is another cover song. This tune reached 19 in the UK charts in 2001. In my opinion, it should have got higher, because I think it is an awesome song. It's quite surprising to me that not many people actually know the song.
It's by a band called "Toploader". Everybody seems to know "Dancing in the moonlight", which was their most successful song, as far as I know. The song I did of theirs is called "Only for a while", and It's my favourite out of all of their songs.
So here it is:
As my contact list grows. So does the hit of views I get in the first few days of putting a vid up. This is because it enables me to notify all those people when I upload something. Once I've uploaded my video, I share it with all my contacts. It goes both ways though. They can share their videos with me too. There's been some issues though, and I've had to start removing some names. The ones that send you up to 10 messages for one video. Just in case I didn't get the message first time!! There are also those that keep on sending me the same videos every day for weeks, and those who send me everyone else's videos. I think I'm getting about 80+ sent to me every day at the moment. So I'm starting to trim down. I can't possibly watch all those.
This is another of my originals. I first put this song up for Valentines day, as it is a love song. Everybody else seemed to be putting something up for that day, so I decided to put up one of my own songs.
It's name is "When I grow". It's an expression of promise and dedication.
This is it :)
A few months ago, I altered my channel description. Inviting people to cover my songs, or use my music in their videos. I figured that this would be a good idea to help spread my music around. I mention it in this post, because someone did a cover version of this song. If you go and pay a visit to my Youtube channel, you will see I have some playlists. One of them is called "Covers and uses of my songs". You will also find 4 other videos that someone has used the instrumental versions of my songs in.
As usual. Here is the rundown on the Youtube numbers.
I now have 516 Subscribers. So well clear of the 500 now.
The channel viewings have passed the 11k mark and now stand at 11,009.
The total video views are 146,277. A little over a hundred thousand more to make it to a quarter of a million :) On current form, that should take 3 to 4 months :) Still, you never know. I have never had any of my videos featured yet, and if that happens, I can expect the figures to rocket.
From an Original to a cover. A lesser known song by a fantastic band.
My next song was another cover version. Last year, a few people requested that I sing a song by a band called "The fray". I finally managed to get around to doing one a short while back, because of the backlog of request that I have. The song I eventually selected is called "How to save a life". If you watch Gray's Anatomy at all, you may well be familiar with this song.
This is one of the videos that a hater decided to try and unnerve me. That was a bad mistake for them :)
I ended up making another video about this experience on another channel. A lighter look at it. Some people on Youtube block haters immediately, but I chose not to. Instead I got into conversation with them, and the outcome was surprising. The hater ended up blocking me!!!
If you go to Youtube and check out the comments on this video, you'll get an idea of the conversation that was had. They started commenting on another video, and it all wound up on this one.
Anyway. On to the song. This is my version of "How to save a life" by "The fray".
And so we come to the Youtube Statistics again.
I've now got 509 Subscribers.
The channel views are 10,986. Only 14 to go until I hit 11,000.
