My father has one leg and his breathing is shallow. My mom is caring for him and the property. She is 83 and he is 85. I have a home that is comfortable, no outstanding bills. My folks need help but won't ask. I want to quit my job, divorce my estranged husband and move in with my folks to care for them and keep them mobile. I am confused however because I love my job, love my house and my freedom. My parents are a 24 hour affair. i don't think I can continue to work and care for them. I am looking for advise. I have high speed internet access here and there is only dial up access there. ...I know that isn't important. They have a library with internet and a small AG school with access. I need advise. I love my parents and want to help them and want to spend time with them during the possible last ..hopefully 10 years of their lives. I am 60, the same age my mother was when she and dad moved from their home to care for my grandmother. I have 7 years of "have to work and make the most I can to receive the SSA necessary to live on". Please help.

I have not been riding my motorcycle No, I have not been on a long deserved vacation No, I have not been sitting by the poolside No, I have not been visiting with my family I have been caught again this year by people needing their taxes done. You would think in this day and age of free tax software or at least cheap software, the people would just stop. But, no matter how I try to overcharge or how many letters I write to express my retirement...they come and I am obligated to do what I do. There go the weekends the vacation, the bike riding..stuck in front of this machine typing out my life without use of my creative mind. Pure numbers and pure rules. I already have a full time job that drains that part of my being.
This past weekend however, I have tapped into my more creative side and have been working on my bathroom. I tore out the flooring, replaced it...revamped my cabinet, ripped out the floor trim and replaced...did break some drywall in the process but, replaced that piece. Now just need to tape, mud and repaint that part of the wall and replace the floor trim and voila!! I am renewed. A few finishing touches...then maybe next weekend I will ride the bike. May just start riding it more to save on gas.
Have you seen the price? I am due for a raise and I am certain with the increase in RE tax, insurance and the price of milk and gas...I will be loosing ground rather than getting a toe up.

Today we lost a valuable employee. Her husband of 35 years took a new job about 10 hours north of where we work..and 6 hours closer to her grandchildren. He will be doing the same thing but, making 30000 more a year. His current company with whom he has been working for 20 years gave him a going away dinner today and presented him with a rolex watch and the keys to the company truck he has been driving for the last two years. His new employer already ordered him a new truck. But this blog is about loosing a person with whom we spend everyday of our lives. We will miss our friend and gave her a hard time about leaving....her husband brought us all chocolate and apologized for taking her away. She will be hard to replace as a person in our lives. We will suffer greatly for months until we get accustomed to her leaving. I know it will be diffiult for my fellow employees. We are all very close. I know this was a stupid blog but, it was a really stupid day.

Just thought I would get your attention. The people with whom I work are so incredible. They learn quickly, take responsibility, and are the most fun. We are having Shred day on Monday. We drag out all the 7 year old files, a big truck arrives and in a few hours...we are paperless....that is less paper than before. So, we are having a shredding party.. Shredded cheese Shredded tomatoes Shredded meat Shredded mushrooms Shredded olives Shredded lettuce all in a taco shell.....hohohoho

I spoke to pop yesterday am.
We both have the same cell phone carrier so can yak for as long as we want any time of the day..same with mom.
Sometimes, I call mom and dad answers because his battery ran down and he is carrying mom's phone..it's a crap shoot!
They have been working on the new kitchen. The folks are never happy with things the way they are. All things must be improved.
The house has a perfectly nice kitchen but, they decided to make a big kitchen...outside the old kitchen..two kitchens???
It is a work in progress. First they had to knock out the brick wall at the side of the house to expand the house for the new kitchen. That means new rafters etc.
The local high school was torn down a few years and they gave the gymnasium floor to dad. It is now the new kitchen floor.
Dad buys the cabinets, brings them home, mom sands them and stains them and sands them and stains them and polyurethanes them inside and out to preserve them til the end of time.
Then dad hangs them..He is thinking about an island in the kitchen with a granite top...and perhaps the kitchen sink and perhaps the dishwasher there too...he is always building in his mind.
Mom is 80 and dad is 82. Dad only has one leg. But, they didn't chop off his head! So, he is always building even if he gets tired and has to sit and build. Those are my parents and i am so very proud of them. I know I will never be a 10th as good as they are at anything.
Love you guys!

My brother sells boxes and stuff. One of the items in his inventory is bubblewrap. So, for Christmas he gave his grandchildren a huge roll of bubblewrap. They wrapped themselves in it an and rolled all over the floor, jumping on each other. All the children at the Christmas dinner wrapped themselves in bubblewrap. Some of the children were 5 others were 16. Old and young enjoyed the idea of just whapping each other. The adults just walked over the lanes of bubblewrap to hear it snap crackle and pop. It was the best gift.

Love to all Oh, and I am taking all the keys to my motorcycle so, if I don't make it back from the holidays...the title is in the glovebox and the keys are in the suitcase and my hubby will be going nuts.....hohohohohoMerry Christmas!

When we got back to the accounting dept the gals called us into the office and gave the Controller and I a BOTTLE each. Controller received a bottle of Gentlemen Jack and i a bottle of 15 year old scotch..Chivas. Yesterday our Controller took us all out to Red Lobster for lunch. We have a much loved employee that is a Jehovah's Witness therefore, does not celebrate birthdays or Christmas etc.so, instead of a Christmas luncheon we had an employee appreciation luncheon. And instead of Christmas gifts I wrapped something for everyone and they were employee appreciation gifts. You have to be careful when you have 7 women ..all wonderful and all in a very tight space and all running everything like a well oiled machine. I pretty much gave everyone the same thing just in different colors and you should have seen them trying to sneak and exchange their color for someone elses...What fun they all are. It was a great luncheon and today we have the company gift exchange party. Everyone brings a dish, and a present, then we do the Chinese gift exchange...it is a lot of fun. I will gain 5 lbs before the end of the week.

Humans existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer & would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in winter. The 2 most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for splitting of humanity into 2 distinct subgroups: Liberals and Conservatives. Once beer was discovered it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early human ancestors were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed. Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as "the Conservative movement." Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's and doing the sewing, fetching and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement. Some of these Liberals men eventualy evolved into women. The rest became known as "girliemen". Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy and group hugs and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided. Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass. Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting revolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorney, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't "fair" to make the pitcher also bat. Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still proide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, athletes, soldiers, economists, and generaly anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living. Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to "govern" the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remain in Europe when conservatives were coming to America. they crept in after the Wild West was tame and created a business of trying to get MORE for nothing. Here ends today's lesson in world history: It should be noted that a Liberal may have a momentary urge to angrily respond to the above. A Conservative will simply laugh and be so convinced of the absolute truth of this history he will immediately tell it to other "true believers" and immediately have another beer.

Today I received the check for the property and my hubby immediately did a quit claim deed to give my partner in property my claim to the property. She sent an Official Check because you can not get a cashiers check for more than 1000. I took the Offical check to the bank on which it was drawn and took cash. The bank took some time to find the person that signed the check. It was necessary to know who signed the Offical check before they could cash it. I had all the time in the world. Because it took them so long they did not charge me the usual 20 fee for cashing the check. I took the cash to my bank down the street and deposited the money. After work my disgruntled hubby came by with the quit claim deed. I had two fellow workers witness my signature and another fellow worker notarize my signature. Tomorrow i will e-mail the document to my friend and partner and then mail it to her tomorrow.

My friend has decided to agree to my very generous terms. She is sending a Cashiers Check and the quit claim deed so I can give her full ownership. My co-workers are all now wanting me to go into business with them...they all promise sad stories when it comes time to account. My son and my hubby are shocked that I let her off the hook so easily. They were both ready for a fight. I used to be her friend. We did things together. We supported each other. It caused a pain in my chest. It is a certain sign that negatives are happening. I live on the glad tiding. My needs are cool clean minty air. If my friends tales of woe and pain were true then, I think we are on solid ground with this offer and compromise. If she has lied as my family and friends think then, God will atone. Out of my hands you know. I hope to renew a past friendship because, no matter how long we live we can not have enough friends. End of the saga.

I heard from my friend. She feels the rent checks I received in the beginning years were sufficient to cancel my ownership in the property. She is now thinking of a partition suit to make me pay her for all the years of losses she incurred while she was trying to make the property turn around. I feel bad for her but, if I give someone capital to start a business and they incur losses through the years while managing that property then, are those losses mine? Perhaps my absense caused the losses. As far as not being able to contact me? I have gotten a call from every relative I have in the last week..where were those calls when she had losses to share? I think she is really angry. I hate that part. Bad karma and all.

Well, I took my pretty bike for a ride to hubby's and a visit with my little Cooper. Took puppy for a walk while hubby took a shower and got dressed for the ride. He wanted to go for a ride and actually has been bugging me to death to get together on the road. He said yesterday that today we would ride. I know what that means. It means he would get ready about noon and dominate my life for the next 3 hours and I would be so exhaused i wouldn't get anything done or feel I had any time to myself. So, I just got ready early and took off. We went up A1A for about 8 or 9 miles then back home. I left and went to my home. He phoned to be certain i got home in good shape. And I was mumbling something about already having a mom and dad. But, I guess i shouldn't complain. My friend with the house is coved in snow and ice right now and yesterday i wrote to her and revisited the situation. If all had gone well for her she would have been singing a different tune but, the property has been a real nightmare. I had hoped it would have been better for her. I cut the amount I should be receiving on the sale by more than a half and offered to let it go for that amount. It is actually the same amount I wrote to her a decade ago an said I would take. Money is funny. I have learned that some people view money more important than friends and family. Those people will always lose. If the tables were turned, I would have been more than happy to include her in the sale. That would have been the fair thing. She keeps screaming about never getting paid for her labor. But, when did you ever get paid for the labor you put into your home? You dig endlessly in the yard planting spring stuff then fall stuff and start all over every year. When you decide to sell and move...do you demand to be paid for your labor? No you do what the market will bear and split with your partner. oh well, I feel happy and I don't feel I have taken anything away from anyone.

Today i received a call from my brother. He said he receied a call from my Aunt, who received a call from my cousin. The message was that people are waiting for me to sign papers so I can sell my property. Isn't that odd. According to my partner, I dropped off the face of the earth and could not be found. That is the reason she gave for not continuing to send me my half of the income minus expenses on the property. Now, that she wants me to quit claim deed the property over to her so she can sell it outright...she finds me. How odd. I left her a message today just to let her know I was not going to quit claim deed the property over to her but, i would be happy to review the potential sell if the title company wanted to contact me. Of course I have not heard from her. In my eye I was doing something good by backing off and letting her have all the rent from the property. I was hoping it would just grow in value and be an asset when I retired. In her eye she has had to deal with the property and has treated it like her own for so long she is now unwilling to share in the sale. It is not a new story. It is as old as private property ownership. I am certain it is not over.

It has been some very interesting days. There was Thanksgiving. I cooked the Turkey and all the trimmings and placed in the fridge then, went on to help a friend who is a crafter and was spending her holiday manning her tent. Afterwards, she treated me to a Thanksgiving meal at a fine restaruant. I expect no pay for my help and it is most likely she is taking advantage of my good nature. But, if she didn't take advantage of it, hubby or son would have taken advantage. On Friday,I took hubby and son to the event but, they were both just anxious to go home and both upset they could not control what I was doing. I parked the auto in a shopping center on Sat and rode with my friend to the event. We had a banner day but, when I got back to my auto..it was covered with bird poo. I think I must have parked under a light fixture. On Sunday I stayed home and changed out a Hunter ceiling fan. The one I took off was remote control and the light fixture was experiencing a problem. Whew that took a lot of energy! But, it was a good day. Every now and then son would come into the room to help. On Monday a long lost friend contacted me to tell me she wanted to sell a piece of property we purchased together in 1984. We refirbed it back then and rented it. When it came time to tally our expenses she had added her labor on her side of the sheet. I only tallied materials. She sliced her wrist during the early stages of the operation so was unable to do work so she hired some high school students to paint and charged the "supervisory" labor for herself..about 10,000 dollars worth. I didn't want to have a fight over the thing and since the house was a mile from hers and an hour from mine, I just let it all go. She sent me a check every now and then for what she said was my 1/2 of the rent minus expenses and her labor but, in 1987 I moved out of town and since we had not spoken since the tally..I lost track. So, for the last 19 years she has been collecting the rent and paying the expenses and keeping up the property. I checked the property every now and then through the internet to see if she sold it. Anyway, she wants to sell it and wants me to sign a quit claim deed and for my trouble she will send me $100. So I am going to do the same thing I did when I last saw her...wish her well and back away. She sent me a 23 page document telling me of her woes of ownership. When we purchased the property it was because she wanted to own it and wanted to have rental income. It was an hour from my house at the time and several states away every since. I helped because she asked. How she managed the property is not my concern. She has had full benefit of the income. If she wants to let the property go for back taxes that is fine with me. She just needs to let go. She said the property has been taken over by gangs but she has found a buyer from California that "doesn't know about the neighbors"....I can not be a party to such a ruse. That is just such a terrible idea. I will not be a contributing entity to the negative vibes that will follow all of us if she pulls that off. Oh she did offer to sell me her half for $45,000. What a life...every day is so new and different. My hubby, the attorney, is preparing a letter. The city bought all the land up to within 6 houses of our property..several years or decades ago. The house was then, about 2 blocks from an interstate highway...she spoke of real estate agents and commissions and insurance on the valdalism..and contractors..etc. None of these held a ring of truth. Just desparation. I smile. People are sometimes best left behind.

My parents have been informed about the bike. I was warned about being careful and insured that they will now worry themselves to death. Etc. Dad, the daredevil of the world..the man that would ride a motorcycle with only one leg...honest the other one was removed. And mom..wee bitty mommy...who wouldn't get on a dangereous thing to just sit. What a dichotomy the pair are. So, how am I? Too reckless to own a bike til now and sometimes too careful to ride. So, I just GO! Like now....I am going!

Donned my chaps and leather jacket and boots and off I went out into the fog.....rode to work and rode in traffic back to the house......it was so good to get in the car! You take so much for granted with a car. Especially an automatic. I hear you can get bikes in an auto but, I think that is cheating. You have to plan your turns and think all the time you are riding. There are so many stop signs in town and the neighborhood. Woohoo!

We picked it up and it is in the garage. I went over the entire thing yesterday removing all the dust and stuff. And of course I rode it and let my son ride too. his assessment was that it is a lighter than the Shadow 1100cc and handles more easily. his only complaint was that with his size 14 shoes he kept upshifting with his heal on the platforms....without even touching the clutch. I understand that is a large no no. You must clutch. I have read the "read this first" manual. Now it is time for the owners manual. Must know your machine. My son asked if I was going to tell my mom I have a motorcycle...I said, "No Way"..he asked what I was going to tell her when she came to visit..I said, "the same thing I told her when she found cig's in my purse as a teen...I'm just holding them for a friend"...hohohohoho. Don't want her to worry....any more than she already does. I LOVE MY BIKE!!!!!!

Today at 2:30p.m. I am going to be a motorcycle owner. Yeah! I have looked long and hard to (1) get a decent price and (2) get a bike I like. You are begging to know what I bought. I will add pic's later when I get it home. It is a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard C-50. That is the 800cc. Grey on grey, mostly stock except for the addition of a chrome luggage rack, a windshield and some saddle bags thrown in that I will most likely not use for a while. No road trips til I get a few miles under my belt. I took a motorcycle a class a year ago..September or August '05. Graduation from that rewards you with a certificate showing you have taken a vehicle safety course which qualifies you for a 10% discount on your vehicle insurance for the rest of your life. Just an aside. The first time I sat on a Boulevard I knew I was in love..that was about a year ago at Pisspot Petes Used Motorcycles. It has the biggest headlight I have ever seen with a tiny little visor making it look like a 1940 Dodge. The front and rear fenders sweep up at the end, further giving it that real retro art deco look. The handlebars are curved not straight. The tank is fat with a very large speedometer implanted that lights up in the dark. Oh, it has the most comfortable seat that sets about 24" off the ground giving me the sense of stability I have not felt on other bikes. I like having my feet flat on the ground with my knees slightly bent to feel in control at the stops. Most important to me was the location of the pipes. I do not feel comfortable riding a bike with the heat of the pipe burning my calf. That is why I was looking at the Yahama Virago. Yahama brings the pipes down the front and past the legs before coming up. or so it seems. Honda Shadow might look cool with all that flashing chrome but, the heat coming off the pipes is a bit much after a few miles. Call me a whimp but, I want to enjoy my ride. Do I sound excited? I am trying to contain myself. The bike has platforms instead of pegs as a standard and the brake peddle is almost as large as an auto's. Oh and it doesn't need a choke. The battery is a bear to get to because it is under the seat. i am thinking of buying a gel battery as a first purchase. My friend gave me a pair of chaps last night and a swell leather jacket that has a leather US flag on the back...cool. All I need now is a pair of boots with the anti grease souls. I have had a full face helmet in anticipation for over a year now! Watch out....I will be on the road everyday practicing my stops and goes...til I feel good about being able to handle it. Oh and it comes with a three year extended warrantee. All for 4900. Wish me luck.

My gym partner has shingles on her cornea. What kind of nerve ending disease would attack your eye? Where is the anti-virus! I have heard you can use Scope to relieve the symptoms of shingles but, not on your eye! I heard there is a shingles shot being developed..well let's hurry. I don't want this! And no one should have it. It is just WRONG! Remember, clean those contacts, replace your case every 3 months...that won't help the shingles but, it could keep you from going blind. My eye doc said there are a lot of people going blind from the eye virus caused by dirty harry contacts. BEWARE!
