MILWAUKEE -- Brandon Woods scored 16 points and J.R. Blount 15, and they both fueled a decisive second-half run as Loyola-Chicago defeated Detroit 64-55 in a Horizon League Tournament quarterfinal game Friday night.

Fourth-seeded Loyola (19-10) won its fifth game in a row to gain some revenge on No. 5 seed Detroit (16-16), which had defeated the Ramblers in the quarterfinals the last two seasons. Blake Schilb added 12 points for Loyola.

Detroit was led by Brandon Cotton with 20 points and Ben Green with 16.

Loyola advances to a semifinal Saturday night against top-seeded Wisconsin-Milwaukee (19-8), which won the conference regular season title for the third straight season.

Trailing by one point at the half, Woods made a basket and Schilb a 3-pointer to open the second period and put the Ramblers ahead for good at 27-23.

After the Titans had pulled within two points at 31-29 on a basket by Torvoris Baker with 16:11 left to play, the Ramblers reeled off 21 straight points to lead 52-29. Woods scored 10 points and Blount eight in the scoring run that put the game away.

Detroit finally broke the deadly drought with a 3-pointer by Jon Goode with 7:59 left to make it 52-32.

Loyola's Majak Kou hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in the first period to cut Loyola's lead at the half to 23-22. Cotton scored three straight baskets to break open a tight game and put the Titans on top for good in the first half at 21-17.

Ben Green scored a career-high 15 points and Jon Goode added
14 to help Detroit rout
Cleveland State 92-58 on Tuesday in the first round of the Horizon League tournament.

The Titans (16-15), the tournament's No. 5 seed, will play Loyola of Chicago in Friday's second round in Milwaukee.

J'Nathan Bullock scored 17 points and Raheem Moss and Carlos English had 11 each for the eighth-seeded Vikings (10-18), who lost to Detroit for the fifth time in six tournament meetings and fell to 0-19 at Calihan Hall.

The Titans outscored Cleveland State 17-4 in the first 6 minutes of the second half to push their lead past 20 points. Chuck Bailey had 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds as

DETROIT (AP) -- Abby Scharlow scored 17 points to lead No. 24 Wisconsin-Green Bay to an 81-52 victory Thursday over Detroit Mercy.

Reserve Nicole Soulis added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Phoenix (21-2, 12-0 Horizon League). Another reserve, Natalie Berglin, had 15 points for Green Bay.

Katie Solner and Lindsey Pasquinzo led the Titans (6-17, 3-9) with 13 points apiece.

Green Bay's bench outscored Detroit's 41-24. The Phoenix also had a 33-27 edge in rebounds.

The Phoenix made eight of nine free-throw. The Titans, who didn't get to the foul line in the first half, finished seven of 10.

Green Bay led 41-22 at the half on 46.7 percent (14-of-30) shooting to Detroit Mercy's 35.7 percent (10-of-28). The Phoenix improved to 57.7 percent (15-of-26) after the break, and the Titans shot 39.1 percent (9-of-23) after the break.

Ill.-Chicago 63, Detroit 57


CHICAGO (AP) - Othyus Jeffers scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Saturday to help Illinois-Chicago overcome early struggles and claim a 63-57 victory over Detroit.

The Flames (12-12, 5-7 Horizon League) shot just 31 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 34-25 at halftime. But they came out firing in the second half, connecting on 45 percent of their shots and outscoring Detroit 38-23.

Jeffers converted six of 13 field goals and seven of nine free throws.

Jovan Stefanov also came up big for the Flames, scoring 16 points with nine rebounds and four assists. Josh Mayo added 12 points and six rebounds with two 3-pointers in the win.

Brandon Cotton led the way for Detroit (11-14, 5-7), scoring 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Jon Goode added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists while connecting on five of 11 3-point attempts.

Illinois-Chicago outrebounded Detroit 44-32 in the win.
