Rain One dreary, drizzly day, Patty asked her teacher to read a poem about him. This is the poem the teacher read. VERY LOVELY, By Rose Fyleman, Wouldn't it be lovely if the rain come down Till the water was quite high over all the town? If tha cabs and buses all were set afloat And we had to go to school in a little boat? Wouldn't it be lovely if it still should pour And we all went up to live on the second floor? If we saw the butcher sailing up the hill, And we took the letters in at the window still? It's been raining, raining, all the afternoon; All these things might happen really very soon. If we woke tomorrow and found they had begun, Wouldn't it be glorious? Wouldn't it be fun? How would you answer the last line of the poem? Here are some ways Patty's classmates answered the questions. Patty said "I'd like that much rain because I'd like to come to school in a boat. It would be an adventure." John said, "I'd like that much rain if it did't spoil our class picnic." Judy said, "I'd like that much rain, but that would be a flood. A flood can be as bad as a fire'" Can you tell why each pupil felt a little different about so much rain? What word in each sentence shows the difference?
