Daily: SPORE: A Review......?
This is a Review of the happenings with the new "SPORE" game by EA. A game I looked so forward to play but now find myself, like the author of this review, having second thoughts. He has a wonderful point that I agree with. But we are cartoonist...so who cares.

*From Nergon at www.nergon.com"

Apparently when Nergon bought “Spore” for Allen, the reason it made Allen forget the previous events and conversation is that it created a HUGE HEADACHE in his life.

A month or so ago I remember seeing a poll on one of the sites I visit regularly. Can’t remember if it was MyExtraLife.com or if it was Infendo.com, but the question was which company do you like better - Activision or EA? If that poll were run again right now, I know the answer would definitely be vastly different. And, to my shame, I actually voted for EA because of the uber-lame, greedy Activision move of putting a stop on the PS3 Rock Band guitar compatibility patch back in December (and sure Activision now owns Blizzard, but they deserve NONE of the credit for any of Blizzard’s reputation or quality of products.). But holy cow, did EA ever make a leap forward in greedy lameness way ahead of Activision.

And what game had the misfortune of having EA’s ridiculously bad behavior stamped to it? The one that’s had gamers 10-50 years old salivating over You-tube videos for the past…how many? Three years? That’s right, Spore is out now ladies and gentlemen. You can finally fight for the right to exist as a single-celled organism and then evolve your own creatures thru many stages of gameplay right out into space. That is, after you’ve installed it, it’s been decrypted, and activated over the web to make sure you, the Spore enthusiast who just ponied up fifty bucks to play this potential wonder of the modern age, are not trying to rip off EA. Apparently EA has decided that they want to have a turn at ripping off…let’s see…it wouldn’t be the people who pirate games…it would be…THEIR CUSTOMERS!!

Take a look at the Amazon customer reviews for a peak at an organized rebuttal to this crazy, idiotic, ill-conceived plan by some bonehead at EA who needs to be fired and kicked out of the country. And it’s not just here that the outrage is being roared from. The blogosphere is just waving pitchforks and torches over this whole event.

So what’s the big deal, right? So what if you have to activate your copy of the game over the web? That’s nothing new. Steam makes you do that. It’s painless and then you can play to your heart’s content. Yes. It is very painless on Steam. And logical. And I applaud them for their sense of…logic. Which EA is grossly missing.

Once you have installed and activated Spore on your computer, if you change your computer’s hardware, you must activate it again. OK, no big deal. If your computer hardware changes a second time, you have to activate Spore again. No sweat. A third change? You have to call EA and prove that you bought the game before you can re-install or re-activate after 3 times. And once you do that you get ONE more activation. And that’s it. So when you pay $50 bucks to play Spore, you are paying full price for the right to install it a maximum of 4 times in your future.

Whoever came up with this idea, you are punishing your paying customers. And not doing anything to combat the talent and abilities of those who are causing your sales to be less than they could be. And now who is causing your sales to be less than they could be? YOU ARE. Because I am not buying this game as long as it has this DRM attached to it. I had fully intended to pay full price for this game so that my daughter could open it on her birthday and scream with glee like I know she would have. But not now. I cannot reward EA for this kind of gross stupidity. I refused to buy Battlefield 2142 (being a HUGE fan of all of the previous Battlefield games) because of the DRM attached to it and it was nowhere near this bad. And I do not pirate games. I am fully educated on how to, but I choose not to. Not only because paying for the game is honest, but because pirating software is dangerous to my personal computer.

I am an example of why this strategy is a complete and utter failure and I know I am not the only one.

Now I have to go put this vein back in my head.

Daily: Monday and time to roll

Ahh, another Monday and we are on a roll. Busy week ahead and here we are on the computer reading someones blog. Or if you see Gary's..looking at the pictures...hey Don't judge me!!!

The Weekend went well, worked a bit at my second job, and talked to the kids. Played some games, and enjoyed some good eating! But as Easter is on it's way I am working on plans to have the munchkins here for the week. YEAH!!! I hope the weather is good to head to the beach. If not, there is plenty to see here in Portland.

How was yal's weekend? Much planned for the spring break?

So Happy Monday.
Fun about you: Me, oh, just Me

You Have A Type D+/C- Personality

You're a pro at going with the flow Downhill, who wouldn’t, It’s Downhill….

You love to kick back and take in everything life has to offer, only because you have no means to fight it, so just lump it.

A total joy to be around, people crave your stability. They also think you are a bit nutty and fun to watch when you trip on your own two feet.

While you're totally laid back, you can have bouts of hyperactivity. Mainly after eating Taco Bell and can’t find a bathroom.

Get into a project you love, and you won't stop until it's done, or someone cracks you on the head, or they finish before you. Then you just go over, burn theirs down and finish yours. But if you can’t finish, you yell “CRAP” and move on.

You're passionate - just selective about your passions. Well, you tend to be picky. Almost to the point people try to figure you out, but can’t seem to get a pattern of decision out of you.

Thanks to brokenfaedoll for this one :)

Starlines: Thinking of someone

Can't wait for that Spring Thaw, where Summer will arrive with the freshness of new life. Where you can sit with someone and enjoy the world around you. Here is one for everyone, for the time you can just sit back and feel the warmth of the ones you love. I know I can't wait to sit in a field of grass with the one i love, just watching the clouds go by.

Family: Our Family of Raiders

Well, this past Sunday I went and took my son to his first tailgate party with the Oakland Raiders. My lady and her two munchkins, along with Many, Many folks we knew from the Medford area. I have to point out..WoW.

I know many of you have no clue on what I am talking about. So I thought I would give you a look into a very wild, and wonderful American adventure.

Tailgating, which is possible before a major sport is well known, for the most part, during Nascar, Baseball, and Football games. Granted they happen during many other events, but not to the “over the top” ways as you see them there. Now I have to point out that some of the most entertaining people show up to these events, which adds to the enjoyment of it all. Here at the Oakland Raider party, we were set up by 6am, and the game was to start at 1:30pm. So that gave us 6 hours to live it up.
The Raiders were playing the Denver Broncos. This is a very heated game between two long running rivals.

While BBQin’ and sting with my son eating a hot dog and drinking soda. We watched the people cheer together and chat, many strangers at first but looked to be long life friends. The American Flag flew high in the slight breeze rolling in from the bay, while a assortment of other flags flew below with a variety from Raider flags, State flags, POW flags, and I even saw some National flags of other countries flying. But all there under the Old Glory. As I have said before, Many People, One Family.

As the time came to go in we loaded up the equipment and all headed into the game, there we sat and cheered every great play, and even shook our heads in the bad ones. When the dust was all cleared, the Raiders stood as the winners. From there the parting went on well into the night. The next day, we made our way home.

I point this out because I was able to show my kids that we all come from different backgrounds, but here we all were, not one trying to bring up some political crap. Or tell us their point of view on Global Warming or the presidential race. NO.
We went to a game, one we know we would enjoy, win or lose, it was our moment.(didn’t hurt that we won) My kids will have that memory for the rest of their lives. One I hope they repeat many times over.
Fun about you: My "Thanks"giving

Yes, Thanksgiving 2007. So what are your plans? What do you plan on doing this holiday? How are you Thankful?

The main reason I ask this is in this time and place people try to use this holiday to express how the “white man” raped the land and so on. Ok can’t say there is not some truth there. The action of the past only have lead to what we have now. Which I have to say is not too bad. I have my health, family and friends. Yea, there were plenty of times where I could have punched my ticket outta this world…but I’m still here making due with what I have. So what is Thanksgiving to me….Well, my family. In that respect I also put friends into that area, why???? The people I choose to call friend have been a direct influence to what I have become and to what I will achieve. Plain and simple.

I am a American, I am part of a nation that has seen it’s share of joy and sorrow, but during this time we become what so many have died trying to continue. Many People, One Nation, Our Family. Yea, some of us are a pain to others. But that’s Family.

Be safe all on this Wonderful Day! -WOOT-

Fun about you: Charles Schultz Philosophy
The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip. You don't have to actually answer the questions --
Just read the e-mail straight through and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2 . Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson: The peop le who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards.
They are the ones that care.

Pass this on to those people who have made a difference in your life.

"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today.

It's already tomorrow in Australia ."

(Charles Schultz)

*My thoughts: Yes, I tend to live life in this point of view just a bit. When my time is done here, I want to look back and know I did make a diffrence with my life. I have built friendships that have lasted over 25+ years. I tend to keep the friendship alive and growing. (so far no one has killed me, some have tried)

Fun about you: Childhood once more.

Awww, Well here is another fun thought from Tabaxion.

I went and had a interview with Toys-R-Us for a part time help for the winter season. I’m not happy about it, but with my family and friends 5 hours away and winter setting in. I tend to have plenty of time to myself in Portland. So I might as well make a few $$ in the process.
Anyhoo, during the interview process they asked us to talk about our favorite toy from our childhood. This, like many thing, got me to think and remember:

Growing up in the 80’s I have plenty of toys to choose from. Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, Star Wars and others like that. But my all time favorite has to be LEGOS!

Ok, why Legos? The list is endless but here are a few.
*The limit of your building is your imagination. So the greater you dream, the greater the reality you create.
Legos are for both boys and girls. I use to play with them with my younger sister and we had hours of fun with them. I could build a castle and defend it against her Cabbage Patch Dolls or a space station and attack her Cabbage Patch Dolls. Works either way.

But my memories of the endless hours I build with my Legos are not the only reason why I find this toy to outlast others. But as a father now I continue that tradition with my children. I build ships, buildings, cars, and odds and ends for my kids, and they destroy them. I build them again. As I look into the tub of Legos I see some of the very some ones I played with when I was his age. The same colors, shapes and sizes. But I look to see my son build his version of a space station and attack fleet ready to strike his enemy.
Granted my son’s foe is not only Cabbage Patch, but also Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Tinkerbell. I guess I need to buy more Legos hum? Lots more.

So what was your favorite toy growing up? Do you still have it? Do you pass that love for that toy to the next generation? Aww who are we kidding, It’s OUR toys, they can get their own.

Family: Teachers and Weekends

Oh no, it’s Global Warming in Oregon, but with cooler temps and rain. Yes, the door has opened here in Portland and the rain is roiling in. For the next 7 days or more it will be rain, rain, and a bit more rain. (or liquid Sunshine as some call it) But some ask, wow….it’s the effect or mankind in the environment causing this…HELLO… It’s the Northwest and it’s just what we have here. Guess what…it’s right on time. *shake my head*

I also received a call from my little girl, went something like this..
Jazzmin: Daddy, my teacher is sick, can you teach my class?
Me: I would love to, but you live 5 hours away.
Jazzmin: Ohhhhh, you can read to my class sometime.
Me: Yes I could, but I have to make arrangements for that and…
Jazzmin: Great, I’ll let me teacher know you can do it.
Me: Ok.

I’m a sucker, but a lucky one.

Weekend is almost here, I think I’ll do some great cartooning this weekend, and I’ll post some of the pictures on Monday. So to all, keep busy this weekend, and look around, Fall is rolling in and the Winter is not far behind.

Daily: Robert Jordan

As most have come to know that a great man has taken his next step out of this world. Robert Jordan know for his "Wheel of Time" books has lost his fight with cardiac amyloidosis.
This man has influence many with his story. I have read his books from the time I was in High School until now. With the 12th book to finish his set, he passes the torch to another to finish what he began. My art, my stories, my adventurous soul was built higher by his writing. I always enjoyed the way he crafted a world that we can all visit. I always saw myself there as one of his characters, facing the challenge ahead of him.

As my friend over at Kingdom of D ended it:

May you shelter in the palm of the Creator’s hand, and may the Mother’s last embrace welcome you home.

Family: Dinner out with MA
Wanted to share with yal what happened last night. My mom calls up to see if I wanted to go out for dinner. With my kids in Southern Oregon right now, all I do is work and play on the computer. What a loser life I have, anyhoo…it went like this:

ME: Hey ma whatcha need?
Mom: If you pick me up, I'll buy dinner out tonight...
Me: Cool, where did you want to go?
Mom: Not sure, that’s why I’m calling you. Where do you like to eat?
Me: Wellllllllll
Mom: we are not going to “Hooters”.
Me: MOM!
Mom: Yea, Yea….you go there for the food. But not tonight.
Me: Geeeeeze ma.
Mom: Now if they had a place called “Peckers”
Me: AKKK MOM, NO…
Mom: What, I’m sure they would have great Buffalo Wings there…
Me: I’ll pick you up after work, we’ll figure it out from there.
Mom: ok, see you then.

Gotta love your Moms. They have this great humor as they grow older. She is the greatest.
American: Remember
9/11.
Yea, I have seen people write about how it was a cover-up, and mistakes made by building designers and other stuff like that. Yea, whatever. Everyday we are faced with people who want to do others harm. But it sickens me to hear that we did nothing about it or we “knew “ it was coming. We know now because it happened. But if we stopped it before it happens, then there is a good chance you would never hear anything about it. So we did stop 9/11 and America continued to move along. We never go to war and the extremists continue to build an attack. This time they get a nuke. BOOM. There goes a American city.
Guess what, 9/11 did happen, and there was nothing we could do. I’m sure there are thousands of leads on threats in this nation alone, but which ones to follow up on, who knows. Until something happens we have no clue what can go wrong.
As for the mistakes of the WTC buildings, Please……when they were built at what point did we think that (not 1 but 2) fully loaded jets would crash into them. Really????? Again, until something happens, we can’t begin to understand the outcome.
Granted the Empire State building was struck by a B-25 in 1945. Which gave us the idea that something like that can happen. But that was back in 1945.
9/11 is the event of our lifetime, compared to Pearl Harbor. Yes, the threat is always there. Now it is a reality. I did not lose anyone close to me that day. But I did get off a plane with my son just hours before that morning flying into Medford OR. I often think that I could have been in one of the planes that could have hit the Golden Gate Bridge if they carried out plans for west coast attacks. That scares the hell out of me.
But now we know, we understand with heavy hearts that we are a target and yea, they can do it. But now there is a new America, one that will not be afraid. The crew and passengers of Fight 93 showed that new spirit that day. Along with the NYPD and NY firefighters who were there that day. A hard lesson that we had to learn and remember.
Fun about you: Weird
Ok Lotus. You got me. I'm %50 Weird. It's that angel on one shoulder and the oddball on the other telling me "cool, that looks fun"

You Are 50% Weird

Normal enough to know that you're weird...

Daily: McD's in Africa
Wow, came across this and started to laugh. then I started to ponder things, then I was just bit freaked out. But here it is another Friday, but this is a special one. Labor Day weekend. My office is closed Monday, and it shall be a wonderful weekend. I hope everyone gets a bit of time this weekend with friends and family.

Fun about you: All you

Wow 2 notes in one day. Sweet

I came across this today and did one. I love this kind of stuff. It's pure fun. And I have to admit that they have a good variety of things to choose from. so that’s pretty nice. I think I did a ok job on my "Mini me" but I wish they had a much more "Charlie brown" head type. that’s more me. But as for the action and look (dragon too) yes, I love my drawings and story writings.
Fun about you: Love with Texas Police
With all of my travels lately, I came across this. I can see the importance of State Police to outdo the common motorist, but this picture cracks me up. Only in America where you might see this.

But here it is on a Monday and yea, another week on the roll. But I find myself with my work getting completed, and things I have fixed, staying fixed. And to top all that off, I have smile on my face. Yea, I feel pretty swell. I have been doing my cartooning again, and some of my ideas are really good. It feels really good. (Thanks Keefe!)

So today, take some time to look around, paint something, draw something, or just shut your eyes and go on an adventure. It is a good day to know that you are absolutely wonderful and no one can take it from you.

So just think of that chopper as your inner guard protecting you thought process. Keeping it safe from the negative element of life, and allowing the pure at heart thoughts to pass. Yea, it’s a bit of Overkill, but that’s ok. Because NO ONE messes with you. Right?
Family: Friends and Family
Friends and Family.

Ok, Yes, I was gone for a week, and thank you Lotus…you noticed. Kinda makes me feel pretty darn good inside. Anyhoo.

I was in Boise with some friends but I really do not call them friends. You may ask..WHY..or WHAT or if you are one of the few I was hanging with are saying “Hey, I want my $5 BACK, BUCKO”

Let me explain. I came from a good size family. 3 Brothers, and 3 Sisters. They all live in Vegas and I talk to them often. And as for high school & College friends that I have and keep in contact with is very large. Several for almost 20 years. But the connection I have with my friends I have in Boise is something great. I really can’t be there all the time and talk to them when I can. But when I am there it is like I never left. I went to several game days with the guys and it was GREAT. I know God has me on a certain path and I will follow that path where it take me, but I so thankful that he allows me to continue contact with the group I have come to know and love as family, it is wonderful. Wait, I say Family. Yea I did. You see, yes we are all Christians there and we are family in God, but I feel it is beyond that. You can love you fellow Christian as family, but what is in Boise is just what a Family under God is all about. If I ever need anything, I know anyone of my brothers in Boise would help. The same goes if they needed help. It’s that Love for Family that keeps the group together and helps all of us continue when things can seem so dark. God shows us that we all have others who care that we are here or there.
So for all of my Family, especially Paxman, Keefe, and Kerry. You guys rock and are all brothers to me. Thank you!

Proverbs 13 20 He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
[You are whoever you spend time with.]

Proverbs 17 17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Family: Fun at the beach

Ahh the Beach. as some of you know, my munchkins were with me this past week. We all hit the Oregon beach. I should point out that the Beach is my favorite place to be at. I have no problmes sitting in the sand and building a big sand castle with a bridge and rock walls. I feel it is the greatest thing in the world. We played in the waves, and I was able to get some great pics of them. It reminds me of my Sister and I when we played in the ocean. Such great fun.
but as the day grew late, and the high tide approaching. Our sand castle starting to fade back into the very beach it was build from. We said our Goodbye to the Beach, and Hello to a lifetime of memories.
Fun about you: ME, and all about me.

Find your Celestial Choir

OH man. I saw this on a few sites and had to do it. I love these things. Great, I'm a joker.
Family: Back when we were kids.
People say this, and others say that;
not my concern, for I can be a cat.
A Moose, a Duck, or a Bird;
would be a Jackalope, but that would be unheard.
I plan on going outside with my children in each hand;
to pretend of a beautiful world, a far off land.
We will dream,
We will pretend,
We will have a adventure,
Then our journey will come to a end.
With that, we will eat dinner, and off to bed;
for a story much more crazy than what we had said.
With a Cat, Moose, Duck, Bird and even a Jackalope;
To dream of love in our hearts, no fear, just hope.

My kids are with me this week. Both my son and my daughter. It’s hard to be 5 hours away, but I do my best. I drive twice a month to see them, and this week I arranged to have both with me in Portland. Not doing much but playing. That is all we have done for the past few days. What a wonderful feeling to just play. It’s that little bit of me that I will never let die. Yea, I grew up, yea I have a full time job, and I pay my bills. But I will never lose time to just sit for a tea party, or build something with legos. (Man I love Legos)
A friend at college (Adam Baker) once asked me what I thought Heaven would be like. I told him I’m not sure. He smiled and said, "I bet we all get to be five again, in a field of monkey bars.”
*Smile
Fun about you: We all know one

It's that special friend that we all hang with and we tend to enjoy having around for one reason or another. Now I know why Paxman still talks to me lol.
Fun about you: Cards
I love these things. I found this on Lotus' Blog and thought I would try it. I just hope my wheel isn't flat.

The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

American: 4th of July...Sweet
Well, What a holiday. Now I was not able to group with several friends this holiday because of my new job. (Next Year I would like to meet up with my friend Kerry and his mighty show in Montana. www.kingdomofd.blogspot.com/) But I do have my son this holiday and we went to the Hillsboro Parade. Which was very well done. That day we enjoyed Hot Dogs and Coke. That night we went to Tigard high School firework Show. Again for $10,000, it was a wonderful show. The best part was the start of the show. As the lights shut down, a spot light went up on a flying American Flag. And they had a young lady sign the National Anthem. While this is going on you can hear fireworks going off in the distance. Brings a whole feel to the line “bombs bursting in air” Outstanding job to the City of Tigard OR!
