A visually gorgeous film. The sets and location create a beautiful backdrop to the movie which stays reasonably true to the novel. Kristen Stewart as Bella is wonderful; I had my doubts prior to the movie’s release, as that is not how I visualized Bella. But Kristen does a pretty good job. Robert Pattinson IS Edward. He is young and attractive. How could any girl not be attracted to him. As cute as Robert is as Edward, he doesn’t hold a candle to Taylor Lautner’s portrayal of Jacob. OMG he is so gorgeous! Of course his role in the Twilight story is minimal and really, really tiny in the movie.
Much of the story is missing. Afterall, they squeezed the entire 498 pages into 122 minutes. The special effects are pretty sorry, the entire baseball game sequence is poorly done as is the fight scene between Edward and James, but the story of Bella and Edward carries the movie, provided you’ve read the books. Without knowing the complete story, the movie may seem a bit rushed. I miss the interaction between Bella and Edward and Jacob’s storyline. Much of the background and character development is absent. I can tell that the movie was low budgeted.
I have two hopes. 1 - That the Director’s Cut DVD gives more attention to the character and story development. 2 - That the sequel, New Moon, has a bigger budget and can go a little deeper into the development of the storyline.
I love the movie. I am so excited that the story was brought to the big screen. I can’t wait for the DVD and New Moon to be made into a movie.
