Spring has come
Flowers, flowers, flowers! Flowers are everywhere! How beautiful! This afternoon I took a walk around campus. I saw a little bird taking a bath in a shallow ponding water pit. Seeing me, it flew towards me as if it was going to bump into my forehead. I dodged the naughty bird. Then I saw a bunny sitting on the green lawn. I had never seen a bunny during the day time before. Everything is sweet and beautiful.
I'm going to make a video tomorrow and send it to my family back home. I haven't contacted them very often recently because I have been busy. Now that I am on spring break. I want to share the beautiful spring time with them.

Amazing Dance
This was my favorit dance in the Chinese New Year Gala I watched several years ago. The most amazing part was all of the girls were disabled(deaf and mute).
The Little Mermaid

My soul is fading now.
I try to hold it in vain.
A smile on my lips shows you how
I disguised my pain.

A crush was what I had
When you were in my arms.
Your pretty face made me sad
With its irresistible charms.

\At that night, I sang a silent song
Which made the ocean shed its tears.
I believed it was to me that you belonged
When I whispered softly to your ears.

But tonight I will sing the swan song instead.
Would you miss me as the foams outspread?
Memories-The Lantern Festival 15 years ago
It was 15 years ago. One week before the Lantern Festival, Miss Lin, our head teacher told us we were going to have a lantern competition on campus. Every schoolchild was to bring their own lantern on that day. On hearing this, a boy cried out “I surely will be the winner! My dad bought me a beautiful lantern in Zigong, the city of lanterns!” Some girls retorted “Ours are better!”

I was envious of them because I had not got my own lantern. I waited anxiously till the school was over, rushed home and plead my parents to buy me a new lantern. Mom said “What about the one we bought you last year?” “But its shell was broken.” I said. “Babe, a new lantern every year, that costs too much.” I was frustrated on hearing this.

But dad said “I’ve got a good idea. We can make one by hand.” And so, mom gave me some cardboard and tools. Dad helped me make many paper pyramids and hexagons, glued them together and folded them into a ball shape. “It looks like a satellite”, I said, “How do we lighten it? With a candle?” “Well,” dad said, “Check the broken old lantern, the bulb’s alright.” I took off the small bubble and the wires, fasten them to the lantern, and put 2 batteries into the controller. After I pushed the button, it became a real satellite! “There you go!” Dad said, “Take it to class.”

On that day, the classroom was filled with lanterns. Among those lanterns, the boy’s lantern was most beautiful: It was made of embroidered white silk, with a pattern of lotus and fish. “It called Affluent Years!” He spoke in a tone of triumph. Finally it was my turn to show mine. I was nervous because my lantern was not good looking at all. When I stepped onto the platform with the satellite in hand, the class burst into laugh. “…Eh, I know it looks weird…like a satellite, but it was made by hand…” “Are you serious? You didn’t make it!” A boy asked with doubts. “Yeah! My mom find me the paper and my dad helped me with the design!” Then I told them how we made the lantern in detail. My audience gave me a warm applaud after my introduction.

Our lanterns were on exhibition for 3 days. And a week later, Miss Lin announced the result. Zhang, the owner of Affluent years was the winner of the best lantern. It was obvious, but I still felt a little regret. Suddenly, I heard Miss Lin said, “The special prize goes to Bei! Her Satellite is very original in design and we want to place it in our school’s history exhibition room!” She congratulated me and handed me a box of crayon as my prize. I thanked her and asked if I could keep the lantern for myself. “Why? Isn’t it an honor to have your lantern on the exhibition?” "Yes it is, but I want to lighten up my own lantern on the Lantern Festival!"
Sorry
Today I broke an accessory of our instrument. It cannot be fixed so we have to spend 600 dollars to buy a new one...I feel so sorry...
An OBE
I was lying in the bed, sleeping. Suddenly I realized I could not move, but I was conscious, at least half-conscious. It was not the first time it happend to me so I was not scared. I concentrated my thoughts and tried to go out of body- A friend taught me how to do that and I did it several times before. Most time when I came out, I just walked around my bedroom, pushed my hands against the window, and felt them passing through it. My body was like water vapor. Things I saw may be a little different from the reality. It was a very interesting experience.

But this time it was different. I felt like I was floating backwards very quickly in a vast darkness. There were some silver stars sparkling beside me. I remained the same position like lying in bed. In that moment time seemed stopped. My mind was so peaceful, no worries or pains. And I wished I could keep floating like this for eternity. But I knew it wouldn't last. About one minute later I woke up reluctantly. Then I was a little scared because I remembered some articles about near death experience. They are somewhat similar. However, that was an amazing experience.
Happy New Year
Don't have much to say but the Chinese new year is coming soon. It will be the first time that I spend the holiday alone without my family.

Before you go to bed
To those who are still on, I'd like to read you a story before you go to bed. But the story is too long. So read it yourself. :))
The noval is called A Game of Thrones. It's pretty interesting. I haven't finish it though. I read real slow. Goodnight!

Studying forever
It's 1:15 pm and I'm still sitting in the office. waiting for a machine running in the lab. :(
I am tired and sleepy, but I cannot go home because the machine is important for my work. I have to get familiar with it.

And my time is really limited these days. Classes and reading filled up most of my day time. I could only read 10 pages of the textbook each day(That's too slow to finish the reading assignments.) And homeworks, lab reports...it seems I am studying forever. :(

I found the only time for me to do something is at night. That's why I always stay up late. Time passes so quickly! It is Friday already! How I wish I could have more time to balance my work, study and life!

I am really happy that I've learnt a lot, but I am too tired...

not a water bottle
“Save it”
They warned me
“The heart is like a bottle
And love is water in it.
It will drain out
If you lose your love too many times.
So keep it for yourself,
And do not fall in love again.”

I did lose my love
And indeed I was hurt.
But still I plan
To plunge myself into another love adventure
Because I have to show them
If you open your heart
It is refillable!
Late christmas photo
The view outside my window on Christmas eve- I love the colors of the sky.
My friend told me that Ethiopian Christmas was on Jan 7th. How interesting.

A talk with grandpa
In a morning lucid dream
I talked with my grandpa

“Shall we play chess together grandpa?
I promise I won’t cry
Even when lose all my pieces.”
“No, I know you hate chess anyway.”

"How about we bang our heads
Just like what we did 20 years ago?”
“No, my head is already bald over the years.”

“OK, let’s watch TV then
And the remote control will be yours this time.”
“No, nothing good is shown on TV nowadays.”

.....

After a few seconds in silence, I asked
“What is heaven like?”
“Hard to describe.”
“Grandpa, would you come back?”
“No.”

“Oh, grandpa. You still haven't forgiven me
For my absence in your funeral.
I couldn’t forgive myself
And I keep crying for you.”

“How silly you are, my dear.
Stop crying. It's time to move on.
You don’t need my forgiveness,
Because we love each other
And we will always do.”
So tired
What have I done today? Just read a few pages of my text book, went to classes in the afternoon and made two dishes for dinner...Not much really. But why I feel so exhausted? I tried to do my homework but couldn't concentrate. I even don't have extra energy to comment on the posts I was reading just now. The battery of my laptop is running low too. Maybe I should go to bed soon.
It snowed again

I made a signature picture with photoshop the other day, with my favorite pixie Tinker Bell in it. And I Love Peter Pan.

Most of times I don't think myself mature enough. I am like a kid stuck in the body of a grownup, and that is painful. I always feel embarrassed when being with mature people. I cannot talk to them with ease, because we have nothing in common. All of my closest friends are like children and we can do something interesting together. Even the most crazy and stupid things, I can do them with my friends. And I think the happiest time is when we are like children running around and not think too much.

My best friend when I was in middle school was a wise girl. We could spend the whole day talking with each other, dreaming of what future would be like. We name all the girls in our class after a flower's name. That was one of our secrets. One time I suggested that we jump up along a building's stairway. My friend accepted immediately. And we did it. That happened a month before high school, when we were about to part. She said, you would never find a friend who would like to do such a stupid thing in the future. Later we went to different high schools. I didn't contact her for a few years. But in college I wrote her letters a lot. I wrote her very long letters with poems. Mail her everything I liked to share with her...like a red maple leaf, or a beautiful photo from an old newspaper. I even wrote to her in English, though I knew she didn't understand it well. I just couldn't help. She was the source of my passion and inspiration. Others couldn't understand our friendship. They didn't understand why we wrote letters while we sent text messages through cell phone every day.

I thought she was right. But I was lucky that I had such friends in high school, and even in college. High school life was very boring. I could never finish my homework. And I never remember what the teachers were talking about in the classes. All I could remember was what Aggie and I was talking about. Aggie could always make me laugh. She was so cute, like a kid too. And Cat, she was my roommate in college. We were like sisters. We almost spend every day together. We would go the hills to pick wild flowers in spring time. And we finished a bottle of wine one night. Ahh, how I miss the college time! I am very grateful that in every stage of my life I could have great friends like them.

After college I never made such good friends. My definition of a good friend is not how much time we spend together, but if we can do something doesn't make sense to others. My memory is full of such experiences. I am always attracted by simple but intelligent minds. Maybe I just refuse to be sophisticate. But it seems all the people around me had grown up, except me. In the crow, we talk and laugh, and still I feel lonely.

It snowed again.

I love nature
There are some African wildlife exhibition windows down the hall right under my office. I often go there and watch them. They look so alive! These animals were chosen from nature. They had finished their mission of life and now still alive in another way. Few could be as beautiful when dead. Maybe Jack London’s novels have played a very important role in the formation my own personality. I always dream going to the wilderness, and just watch, watch the vultures hovering and wild horses running freely. And I can always feel the connection between nature and me. I didn’t really enjoy living in the crowded city. I guess my heaven should be a place where surrounded by high snow capped mountains, with large prairie and clean lakes and rivers running thru.

I took some pictures of the animals. I especially love the leopard. Look at his face. How funny! This picture is my current computer desktop. :P

Name
Gosh, what have I done!
I believe this is the second time that I told the persons calling over the phone that there was not such a person they are looking for.
And after hanging up I suddenly realized the call could be mine.

It feels so bad. I never expect others calling my name that way...it did not sound like my name at all. I took for granted that it was someone else. And I didn't expect my name was so difficult to pronounce correctly. I was always proud of it because of its simplicity.
Maybe I will consider giving myself an English name.
To my friends
About Drugs
"I felt like it opened my mind in many ways but it also distorted other things and disabled me too. My memory became short... I mean, I couldn't carry a conversation very long because I forgot what I was talking about, however- I realized this of course... so I decided not to talk so much.. And I just experienced my mind. I felt like I could feel my body much better than in daily life. I felt areas where my bones had problems etc... Like my right knee felt like something was wrong... and my right foot... and a certain area of my back. Actually, those are areas where I have injured... but usually I don’t feel it like that. Also, my imagination became more vivid. I walked to the beach with my friend, who also had smoked it. It was night time... and I looked at the clouds above the ocean... I felt it was so beautiful... and I imagined the clouds were a painting... kind of like starry night ... and mentally I could paint in the clouds because my imagination was very strong. It was quite interesting... I think the substance allowed some parts of my brain to work better, and other parts to be a little bit handicapped. But overall I still had my basic judgment. It was a good experience. And I would do it again, but still I believe you shouldn't do such things very often. And before I tried it I researched very heavily on the internet... and found that it doesn't have permanent side affects... and it doesn't damage your brain at all. Like some drugs can do. Like some un-natural chemical drugs do. I don’t think it’s too bad... the Indians use to do it for all of their spiritual ceremonies because they believed it opened their mind to the spiritual world. But I’m not the kind of person to rely on something outside of my own body or mind ... I'd rather just be alone, by myself. I don’t need such things. But I would recommend everybody try it once. If you ever tried such a thing though... only do it with a good friend who also did it. Whom you trust. Or else by yourself, although with a good friend is best. I’d never try a different drug, though." He said a lot about marijuana.

Though I knew western people's attitude to drugs, especially to such "soft" drugs like marijuanna is very tolerant, I was still surprised that my dear friend actually have done it last year and recommend me to try it. Yes, I figured it is very interesting experience from his words and of course I'm curious. But is my mind matured enough? I am really not sure. So I don't want to try it.
Hahaha! Finals are OVER!
Lalala, the final exams are over! I was so tired these days! Need to have a long sleep!
I sang it
I just found a song I recorded last year. :)
Sunshine after the snowstorm
There was a big snowstorm last Thursday. And I didn't know the classes were cancled the next morning. I went for class but no one was there. So I took out my camera and shot pictures. The sunshine after the snowstorm looks warm but my hands were freezing!

Wanna Learn Spanish
Today I heard a beautiful spanish song in the radio....touching music. I knew it had something to do with love. But I don't understand it. I want to learn Spanish. So I can sing along with the music.
Forgot Everything
Basically, I forgot everything. I forgot to pay my rent before the due date, so I payed an extra $25 late fee. I forgot my report is due tomorrow, so I am still working on it tonight. I heard a phone ringing this afternoon and forgot the ringtone was mine, so I missed a call I was waiting for. I told these to the guy before left office, and he laughed. After a second, he had to open the door for me with surprise. I grabbed my keys and said "I told you I forgot EVERYTHING!"
So Embarrased
For me, most foreigners look the same. I cannot tell the differences of them. Today I was so surprised when Adam, another student in my lab asked me about a course we take. I was totally unaware of he was in the same class either! Luckily there are many students in that class, or I will be embarrased to death. I am still not sure if I can call them by the correct names when see them elsewhere...
