The Francis Frith collection
Renowned Victorian photographer Francis Frith traveled thro Britain, producing thousands of photos of landscapes and places. After his death, his sons carried on the business and today the Frith collection is a nationally important archive. This look at the peak district contains a selection of evocative photos which will bring back fond memories for many. Here is a steam train crossing a monsai dale viaduct in 1955, an early motor car out side a Hope Hotel in 1919Eyam village institute in the same year, Bakewell Bridge in 1955 and caravans at dovedale, 1960. Earlier Frith pictures include an inn at Rowsley and a view of Reynard’s Cave, Dove dale, both taken in 1864.
