As a PC user i often feel i'm under some sort of guardianship after i open the computer. When i want to throw away a photo from my desk, Windows asks "Do you really want to destroy the file IMG_0121.JPG?" Just like in the Wanna be a millionaire? -game! YES, -let's lock the answer- throw the friggin photo into the trash can!
Not to mention firewall! "Is it really ok to open this page?"
When DOS was the prevailing operating system you had to give a strict order -with a code- to the computer about what to do next. 1993 came Microsoft's Windows 3.11 operating system and since then computers have been trying to boss people around.
Slowly the programs have become "mother figures" ..with their never ending advices and constant questions. And me..i've become the passenger..i'm not the "driver" anymore.
Especially Word likes to fuss. Regularly that annoying clip pops up and suggests all sort of things and asks stupid questions. Plus that anticipating text input thingy..it is a total catastrophe; words are never typed right and there's always a comma missing somewhere plus every minute Word is forcing those goddamn months and dates into the text. Only Notepad keeps its information to itself and lets me type in peace.
These programs have also become very selfish. If i use iTunes for music, Windows Media Player appears and asks if i would like to use IT as a default program. MSN Messenger is another nuisance. I can't close it normally by clicking the "X" in upper right corner..nooo..i also have to log off. After that the messenger dares to ask: "Do you really want to log off?"
Oh yes, don't forget! Today's computers are also your best pal! After using Nero for burning music it suddenly asks: "What would you like to do next?" I don't know! Eat something? Watch some tv? Do i REALLY have to "small talk" even with my PC nowadays??
