Looking Up...
Things are looking rather interesting at work lately. The schedule, recently, has had me working in the back for the last three weeks (working in the back, meaning working in Receiving), something I very much enjoy. =^_^= And yesterday, after my shift, I went to talk to my boss since he'd mentioned something about changing the schedule next week for one of my shifts from an 11-5 cash to 9-5 receiving, and he told me that my days on cash are "numbered" as he'd like to see me in receiving more in the future. **grinz** Ooooh, happy days!

So, yeah, life is good.

To make things even better, my foot is healing nicely...and no, it wasn't broken, just a rather nasty sprain.
Quote of the Day: What is life?
What is life? It is a flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
Crowfoot's last words (1890) (Blackfoot warrior and orator)
Ouchies.
Well...if I didn't have bad luck, I probably wouldn't have luck at all. That's how the saying goes, right? **laughs**

To make a long story short, I think I may have broken my foot. -_-; Not really sure how I managed to do that, but it really hurts like an S.O.B. if I try to put weight on it or move my toes (heck, just the pressure of my sock causes untold amounts of pain at this point). I put it off long enough, but I finally broke down and made an appointment to see a doctor. I don't really trust those Walk-In Clinics. Have had a few bad experiences with them in the past. Unfortunately the soonest I could get in was late this afternoon. So, I had no choice but to call in to work and tell my boss that I can't make it in today. T_T I honestly don't think I could stand for an entire shift at my till. To even try wouldn't be worth it in my mind.

On a happier note, I think Spring is finally here. **knocks on wood** We had beautiful weather over the weekend. And since I couldn't do a heck of a lot due to the pain in my foot, I sat on the deck with my laptop (had to go buy an anti-glare screen that didn't really fit but at least improved visibility...really hate that reflective screen!...if I wanted to see myself, I'd look in a mirror), a fire in the chiminea (is that spelled right?), and a cup of milk. I was set and good to go. Ended up getting a bit of a sunburn...hubby was calling me "Rudolf" the rest of the weekend. **laughs** But it was worth it in my mind. I got to enjoy the beautiful weather, chatted with a good friend online (even managed to get the wireless router to work...a miracle in itself...it doesn't seem to like our yard -_-; ), and played around with graphics for a while. All in all it was good times. =^_^=

The renovations on my mom's house are nearly complete! (About time, too, if you ask me!) Still waiting for the bathroom window and we have to wait for warmer weather for the cement (looks like my cousin got the contract to do that which is awesome since he's top of the line when it comes to masonry...been doing it for 20-some years!). So, hopefully once this is done mom won't have to worry about her basement flooding for some time to come.

Hubby spent the weekend working on his truck(s). >.> He's taking two trucks and turning them into one. Our old blue truck is mechanically sound, but the body is falling apart. The red truck we bought has a better body on it, but mechanically it's kind of feeble. So, he's combinint two in hopes of making one good truck. I'm hoping he completes his project before camping season is here. So, over the weekend he was painting (decided that he didn't want to spend $5000 on a nice paint job just to scratch it the first time he went boonie-bashing...a.k.a. hunting or camping in the the backwoods). Besides, it's a truck...they're made to be abused. **grinz** I may have gotten that attitude from my brother. He seemed to be the master at abusing his trucks. -_-; Anyhoo...the colour that hubby chose is...interesting. Naturally since the body of the truck is red, he intends to keep it that way (red paint will bleed through pretty much any other colour so it just makes sense even if I'm not particularly fond of that colour...red just bothers me for some reason). Unfortunately, I don't think he realized just what shade of red it was. >.> So...we're going to have a shiny candy apple reddish metallic colour...reminiscent of the Mustangs from the 1960's. **shakes head** I told him he better put the 351 in or the truck just won't be able to live up to that hot-rod colour. :P (We have a Cleveland and a Windsor kicking around in one of the sheds...a left-over from when we got married and my brother...oh so loving that he was...used spare parts and a couple of motors as my "dowry". **laughs**)

Anyhoo...I'm in need of coffee and a ciggie and unfortunately my computer just doesn't reach that far, so I'm off and running like a herd of turtles (or as my brother would say "A Turd of Hertles"...he's a real card, ne?)

Toodles!

=^_^=
Good Day...
Had a wonderful visit with my cousin this morning and part of the afternoon. Haven't seen him quite a long time...couple years at least. Kinda sad, actually, since we do live in the same area...he's just 20 minutes out of town. But, I suppose that's how it goes. Different lifestyles...different schedules...different interests. Actually, the different interests aren't so different after all. **laughs** I was rather amused to discover that we hold the same fascination for certain subjects. We got into quite the friendly debate over it...though I couldn't really say it was a debate since we actually agreed.

The weather is still trying to make up its mind on what it really wants to do. Part seems to be saying "Yes, I shall introduce Spring!" while the other is absolutely refusing to give up on the idea of Winter. -_-; Hopefully both sides will begin to agree soon. I'm ready for Green...tired of White...and definitely sick of seeing drab browns. Blech.

Basement flooded...again...cats were rather irritated with us, I think. I'm fairly certain they're not fond of doing the backstroke. **shrugs** Oh well. I'm sure they'll come around sooner or later out of their sulk...

My dog is in serious need of a bath. @.@ She seriously stinks. And she keeps dropping clumps of mud all over the place. But I don't dare give her a bath quite yet...don't want her to get sick. Still much too cold to risk getting her wet. And I don't want her in my bath tub. -_-; Yuck. Maybe after we get the worst of the mud and grime off of her...but until then, she'll have to be content with the garden hose. Hubby's been kind enough to plumb it so that we can have warm water, too. But, like I said, it's still too cold to give her an outdoor bath yet. So, we'll have to deal with the oh so wonderful scent of dog for a little while longer. I honestly don't think she cares...just as long as we feed her and bring her in for the night, she's happy. Truthfully, I don't think that dog ever stops wagging her tail...except maybe during visits to the vet...

Things at work are picking up a little...but that's to be expected, I suppose. Getting close to that time of year again when people are getting ready for...well...whatever it is they do outdoors. O.o **shrugs** At any rate, it's been rather busy the last few weeks.

Other than that, not a lot has been happening. My great-niece's birthday party was on Saturday. She's a whole whopping 7 years old now. (Technically, her actual birthday was last Monday, but 'cause of school and work schedules, her mom and dad opted to hold the party on the weekend following.) It was...interesting. My niece sure likes her White Truffle Cake. Personally, I don't care for the icing...much too sweet. **shrugs** But, whatever...
Finally...
The renovations at my mom's house are finally complete! At least, for the most part. We're still waiting on the bathroom window. The contractor ordered the correct size...but was sent the wrong size. Go figure.

Well...I suppose "complete" isn't completely accurate. They still have to do some work outside...new concrete around the side of the house is in order...but the contractor has to wait until June to do it since it's still too cold to do much outside (apparently).

This weekend my great-niece will be having her 7th birthday party. She already turned seven, but due to work schedules and school and such, her parents decided to wait until the weekend to have the actual party. I suppose I'm looking forward to seeing my Munchikin again...but I'm not really looking forward to all the hustle and bustle that comes with a party. I guess I'm still asocial at heart, ne?

I've been giving some thought to going back to school...upgrading and perhaps working towards a "new" career goal. Been actually thinking about it for quite some time now, truth be told. However, I've finally concluded that at this point in time it's really quite pointless to do so. It would be a waste of time and money. I'm content with where I am currently in my "career" and enjoy working for the company that I'm at right now...as well as being happy with the people I work with (for the most part). So, it really wouldn't be beneficial to alter that right now. (Unless I chose to take evening classes just for "fun".)

The weather has been an up and down rollercoaster the last couple of weeks. For a while there, I honestly thought Spring had finally decided to deign us with its much awaited presence. Now...blech. We're back to cold weather and no sign of Spring in the immediate future. At least it isn't currently snowing.

Got stuck in my backyard last week. -_-; I'd much rather get stuck in snow, really. At least with snow I have the option of shovelling myself out. In mud? Yeah...riiiight. Not an option. Luckily, we were able to get the truck started and managed to pull the car out on our own. It would have been highly embarrassing to have to call a tow truck to my own backyard.

Nothing else much is really happening at this point. Life is pretty boring for me right now...except for a few items that I've already mentioned to break the monotony. I defiitely can't wait for Spring to finally come...with Spring comes green (grass, trees and flowers!) as well as CAMPING!
Graphics...Wallpapers & Icons: Backgrounds, wallppaers, general gossip
Been having beautiful weather the last few days. Makes me think Spring may actually be right around the corner.

Thing is, though, we shouldn't get complacent with the mild temperatures...not here in Saskatchewan, at least. I've heard that we should expect some pretty nasty weather in the next week or so. I hope the predictionis wrong, but considering everything, I think there's a good possiblity of it turning out that way.

Work has been...interesting. We've been very busy lately and I'm not really sure why.

Been experimenting with backgrounds and such with wallpapers. Won't post 'em all, of course (would take up waaaay too much room for just one post), but maybe over a few posts I'll get 'em all up. ^_~

Kenshin & Kaoru (1024 X 768)

Well, time to get ready for work.
Finally, a bit of time...
Been so busy for the last month or so that I haven't had time to tie my shoes, never mind get online and update my blog. T_T

On a positive note, the renovations are nearly complete at my mom's house. Thank goodness! It's about time, too. She also now has hew new furnace installed and running like a top. Perfect.

My house is in an uproar. I've finally managed to move some of my stuff home from over at my mom's. >.> Not bad...only took eight years to finally get around to moving in. -_-;

Been beastly cold the last few days. Actually...it hasn't been that cold per se...it's more of a dampness to the air as well as the wind that makes it so unbearable. Oh well...almost into February, so that means only a few more months to go before we had spring again. =^_^=

Am so looking forward to going camping! Wheeee!
Effiency or just plain snarkiness
HaHa! The efficiency of city planning never ceases to boggle my mind. **laughs**

A month or so ago hubby went to city hall to let them know that the trees in front of our house...on city property (the boulevard)...were in serious need of trimming. Whenever it snows, the branches get so heavy that they dip down and partially obstruct traffic, meaning that if a vehicle with any height (ie: semi's, graders, etc.) go by, they brush/scrape against the branches (the last time was bad enough that it ripped part of the branches off and took bark off). The ever pleasant city workers in the office were oh so helpful. They gave him a blank stare and said "What? You want us to come knock the snow off?". -_-; Uh huh. Riiiiiight.

So, today as I was returning home after taking my mom to an optometrist appointment, I saw flashing lights in front of my house. My first thought was "Oh joy...water main break. Just lovely." But when I got closer I could feel my eyes bugging out in utter stupified shock! The city sent some workers down to take care of the tree "problem". Yup. They sure did. And no...they weren't knocking the snow off the branches...unless cutting the entire freakin' tree down counts as that. And it didn't look like just one tree was meeting an untimely demise...looks like they were going for broke and choppng down all four of 'em.

**sigh** I'm going to miss the shade they provided. Was great in the summer to help break the heat of the west sun. T_T

I think this is a firm lesson to be had by all. When dealing with city hall, be prepared for them to go overboard with even the simplest of solutions to a minor inconvenience. -_-;

**~**

In other news...

It's freakin' cold
When the Cat's Away...
...The cashiers will goof off. -_-;

Oh yeah. I had just a crap-tastic day/night at work. Uh huh. Was scheduled for just a normal 6 hour shift, which suited me just fine, but someone called in so they were going to be short staffed tonight for closing. Since no one else could/would stay, my boss asked me (obviously not expecting an affirmative answer since I'm still sick...one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel as my mom would say **laughs**)...so, I just had to surprise him by say yes. Long story short, I worked a 9 hour shift today when in reality I just wanted to curl up in a ball and sleep. **shrugs**

So...where the crap-tastic stuff begins.

Well...first things first. I was supposed to be training one of the new cashiers. Turns out he really didn't need any more training than what he'd already received (it was, after all, his third day). So, after I told my boss this, he then told me to just do...whatever. O.o Er...ooookaaaay...basically just hop on a till if it started getting busy. So, I puttered. I cleaned, I did hangers, garbages, security tags, etc. And...watched as pretty much everyone else goofed off.

GrrrrrAaarrrggghhh! **agravated scream**

The supervisor kept after them to stop standing around gossiping...the manager on duty tried shaming them into doing SOMETHING other than nothing, I just gave up and did it myself. It got to the point where I was just sick of calling them back to their tills everytime they wandered off and then got a customer (which they promptly ignored since there weren't at their freakin' till anyway so they didn't know they had a customer!), so I just did it myself. The supervisor got sick of telling them to get to work, so between the two of us, we did all the closing duties. -_-; The closing manager on duty tonight had other things to worry about (like controlling the other departments, ensuring stock was properly placed, as well as trying to come up with displays for the new stock -_-;).

All in all, I'm about fed up with my younger co-workers. As I told my supervisor...normally I don't care what anyone else does...but tonight...I'm starting to get a little irritated.

I'm soooooo looking forward to when the store manager finds out about tonight's fiasco...and there's no doubt that he WILL hear about it very soon.

Normally I could care less. Tonight it just pissed me off.

Of course, running a fever probably didn't put me in a very good frame of mind tonight either. >.> Whatever.

I'm going to bed. I have to take my mom to town tomorrow morning to pay bills. Joy. Maybe I'll get a lunch out of the deal.
No Chicken Soup :(
Meh. Didn't have chicken soup in the cupboard for lunch. T_T I really have to go grocery shopping soon. The cupboard is starting to look a little bare. **laughs** Instead, had a fried egg sandwich with cheese on top. Yum.

For dinner, hubby made homemade hamburgers. =^_^= He even put bacon on top! He's the best.

Finished watching the 8th episode of Black Blood Brothers. I'm finding it very interesting, but a little confusing. They stick flashbacks into it, but don't tell the viewer that it's a flashback...kind of leave it up to us to figure it out. -_-; It's really too bad that only 12 episodes have been slotted for this series. I think it has a lot of potential to go on for much longer, if only to delve into the histories of the various characters. After all, just going by Jirou (the main male character), he has a lot of history...considering he's a vampire that's been around for well over 100 years. =^_^=

But, anyhoo...now that I've watched all 8 episodes that have been released thusfar...I need to find something else to pass the time...and cleaning my house isn't high on my list of fun things to do. :P

A friend of mine has been after me to start writing again...but truthfully, I'm not feeling very creative right now. I hope I'm not in the middle of another ten year dry spell. (Happened before...went ten years without writing and it totally sucked.

Meh. I'm sure I can find something to do. Maybe I'll play a game for a while before going to bed. I need to try to get to sleep early tonight since I work tomorrow morning...and knowing myself the way I do, I'm going to have a real bitch of a time falling asleep again tonight. >.
Stuff...lost camera things and other things
Well, I was going to post pics of my Halloween costume, but I can't seem to find the cable thing to transfer the pics from the camera to my computer. I've searched high and low, all to no avail. I'm going to have to break down and ask hubby. **laughs** Wanna bet he has it stashed somewhere "safe"? You know those "safe" places, right? So safe that no one will ever find the item again during their lifetime. :P

Well...I can't say as I'm feeling all that much better, but at least the coughing is more manageable now. Which is a good thing. I go back to work tomorrow. >.< I don't wanna...I like sitting on my butt doing nothing. Unfortunately, there are things I want...things that require cash to obtain...and therefore I must work in order to obtain that required cash. Oh well...at least my job isn't something I totally hate. =^_^=

Last week I had to stay with my mom...again. She'd received a couple of crank calls and after reporting them to the police, they advised her to not be alone for a few days. -_-; And that's where I came in. Naturally, out of three children, only one is available to stay with their elderly mother. **shakes head** Some day they're going to realize the terrible mistake they've made...and, unfortunately, it'll probably be too late to fix it by then.

Started watching Black Blood Brothers last night. Definitely looks like something I'd want in my collection. **grinz** Vampires! As an added bonus, it contains the talents of one of my favourite seiyuu, Sakurai Takahiro. It looks like it'll be a fairly short series, though. **sigh** Oh well...such is life, ne?

I'm scheming to find a way to sucker...er...I mean convince (:P) hubby to watch Ayakashi with me. Somehow...I doubt it'll work. **laughs** Though he will occasionally watch dubbed anime with me, getting him to watch subtitles is like pulling teeth from a pit bull...with no anasthesia.

Well...I've procrastinated enough. **sigh** I need to get off my butt and make something to eat. Hubby should be home in few minutes and I think he'd appreciate some warm soup. It's a little chilly out there today. Not cold and blustery...but just chilly. 'Sides...I'm kinda feeling the beginning rumblings of hunger myself. ^_~ I wonder if we have any chicken noodle soup left...

Yotsuya Kaidan - Oiwa-sama

REVIEW:

The first story contained within Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror is based on the famous Kabuki play written by Tsuruya Nanboku the Fourth, Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan which was first performed in 1825. Yotsuya Kaidan consists of four parts and contains elements of trust and betrayal, love and hate, murder and revenge...and, of course, we can't forget the Curse of Oiwa.

Truth to tell, this story was rather creepy. Murder, dishonour, rats, poison, jealousy and finally a betrayal so terrible that the woman scorned reached from beyond the grave to exact vengeance for what had been done to her.

The art was different than most anime I've watched before...but not in a bad way. There was exquisite attention to detail and the characters were drawn in a much more realistic manner, not really very cartoonish at all.

The opening song, however, seems out of place to me. For a story that takes place during the Edo period, the time between 1603 and 1867, modern rap just doesn't seem to suit the setting.

It's very helpful to have a decent understanding of Japanese customs and traditions as well as a rudimentary knowledge of Japanese history. However, it isn't necessary in order to watch this series. The fansubbing group, gg, was kind enough to add in some helpful translator's notes in PDF format for those who would like a much more detailed understanding of what's going on and why certain things are done.

*** ~ ***

Tenshu Monogatari - Tomi-Hime

A tragic story of the love between a human and a Forgotten God. A very sad, very tragic story filled with visual beauty. The characters, the backgrounds, all of it is very beautifully drawn. Like the first story of Ayakashi, there are helpful translation notes in PDF format that explain some of the background and history that accompanies this story.

There are a couple of characters that seem somewhat out of place in this particular story, almost as if they were thrown in as an after thought for pure comedic effect. After watching all four parts to Tenshu Monogatari, I'm still a little uncertain what those two characters' purpose actually was.

There is a bit of betrayal and treachery in this story, but it seems to focus more on the tragedy of a love that was ill-fated from the very beginning. There is, of course, a twist at the end...but I won't give it away. ^_~

Bakeneko - Medicine Seller

The third, and final, installment of the Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror series consisted of three episodes and was...different. This chapter didn't contain the same artistic style of the previous two and was, in fact, drawn much more cartoonish. The story was a little difficult to follow unless close attention is paid to the details revealed by each of the characters. The translation notes in the accompanying PDF files are very helpful in understanding some of the terms used frequently.

The story itself is interesting, focusing on the concept that the evils that humans do can come back to haunt them. Even after watching each of the episodes no less than three times each, I found that there were details that I missed during the previous viewing. Though I found the animation style substandard compared to the previous two story arcs, I can't say that it was completely disappointing either. There was exquisite detail painted in the backgrounds, but the characters themselves were left wanting. There didn't seem to be a lot of character development either, at least not at first glance. What kept drawing me back to watch again was the extraordinary work done by the voice actors.

*** ~ ***

All in all I'd have to say that this series is definitely worth checking out. However, I'd advise renting it first before buying it. If you're looking for Freddy Krueger-style horror film, this is definitely not what you're looking for. Though the stories themselves aren't really all that frightening by todays standards, I'd classify them more along the lines of psychological thriller rather than true horror.
Bleh...Being Sick Sucks
Well...so far I've missed two days of work...and am anticipating missing one more. -_-; Finally went to the doctor yesterday 'cause this cold just isn't getting any better. In fact, it seems to be getting worse and settling in my chest. So...the doctor took x-rays of my chest and the good news is that it isn't pneumonia like I was afraid of. Whew! I've had pneumonia 7 times already in the past...I don't really want to deal with it again. @.@ The bad news is that it's a severe case of bronchitus. T_T Well, my lungs look really good, according to the doctor, as does my heart...but my bronchial tubes showed up with white crap in them (I can only assume that represented the infection or whatever). So, the doctor prescribed antibiotics and a few days of complete bedrest. Which, incidentally, I don't think my boss was pleased to hear (but at least I didn't have to work Friday or today). Since I was scheduled to work on Sunday, he said he'd try to switch my shift with someone from Monday. Hopefully I've stopped coughing by then (when I get into coughing fits it seems to last forever and at the end I have a difficult time catching my breath).

Watched Memoirs of a Geisha the other day. I enjoyed it. I was quite surprised when hubby said that he liked it enough that he wanted it in our collection. =^_^= I'd like to read the book now. Been told that the book is even better than the movie.

It snowed last night. Looks like winter is definitely here to stay. Of course, now that it's November, that's to be expected. I was quite surprised when we didn't get snow on Halloween...seems almost a tradition for us over here...trick or treating in snowbanks, sleet, blizzards, you name it. **laughs** Was good for the kids that we didn't get all of that.

I sure would've liked to have slept more today...but unfortumately coughing non-stop kind of woke me up. -_-; Oh well. At least I can lay down on the futon and relax (next best thing to being in bed as far as I'm concerned...just a bit more comfortable for playing on my computer).

**laughs** Oh, the doctor I saw is a real card. He asked if I smoke...to which the only answer is yes, naturally. Then he asked how much...and I told him about 6 cigarettes a day, give or take a few here and there. His response was to give me an admonishing look and shake his finger at me, then tell me that six cigarettes was hardly worth it...followed by the order of "Either smoke more or quit!" Hilarious. :P
Still Alive...mostly @.@
Been sick for the last week or so...would very much like to be over this stupid cold any time soon. -_-;

Got a "Customer Appreciation Award" at work this morning. Yay! I have a Pawprint now! **grinz**

Dressed up for Halloween today at work. >.> I thought there'd be more of us dressed in costume, but guess I was wrong. **sigh** Oh well. I had fun. Might even win the "prize"...by default. **laughs** I do have pics of my costume...and once I get off my lazy behind and load them onto my computer, I'll share 'em with my friends. I was very happy with my kimono...not so pleased with the obi (didn't quite work out the way I'd hoped...probably 'cause I have a really whacked out figure...big bust, big hips, and relatively small waist -_-;), borrowed a black wig from a friend since my hair is WAY too short to even hope to acheive a decent "geisha" hairstyle and had to improvise with the makeup since nothing I tried worked (even tried zincofax...figured if it was safe for baby bums, then it was safe for the face)...in the end I just used my normal foundation and dusted baby powder over top in hopes that it would whiten my face a bit. Then again, considering how sick I've been, I really didn't need the makeup. -_-;
Matantei Loki...manga...
Well, I finished reading the Matantei Loki manga that I received last week. =^_^= I'm very happy with it and can't wait to save up enough money to order the sequel...Matantei Loki: Ragnarok! It'll be a while, but that's okay...I think I can try to exercise a little bit of patience and hang tough while I wait ot save up enough to send for it.

I've determined that I really need to make an appointment to see the optometrist. @.@ While reading the manga, I had to stop several times and enlist the help of hubby in reading the small print. -_-; I've known for some time that my prescription just isn't doing it for me...signs that are any kind of distance from me are nearly impossible to see, after all...but I hadn't noticed too many difficulties with reading. Then again, I've been finding it increasingly difficult to read the SKU's at work if they're a little on the smallish side or slightly blurred. >.< I've had a few problems with it, now that I think on it. **laughs** My boss was the one who pointed it out, actually...much to my chagrin. Oh well...he just teased me about it for a few minutes then continued on his way.

But I digress.

I was talking about Mantei Loki, wasn't I? :P I've finally reached the end of my patience in searching for images online...so I dug out my scanner (old, decrepit, but all I currently have) and am going to see if I can scan some of my more favourite images from the manga. I'm not really holding my breath...but I do hope it works out.

I've been thinking of making an attempt at creating a webbie for this series...both to feature information on the manga and anime as well as fanfiction (have been working on one for the passed month or so...and, sadly, haven't gotten beyond the second chapter T_T). But I don't know if I'll actually follow through with this idea...my knowledge of HTML is fairly limited and I refuse to go half-measures. As my grandfather used to say "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well." **nod nod**

Then again...maybe he was a perfectionist like me?

**grinz**

EDIT: OCTOBER 15, 2006 10:59PM: W00T! The scanner actually worked! Really big pic, too! @.@ But that's good...makes it much easier to work with than if it were a smaller image, ne? So...I'm a happy little clam now. =^_^= Now, all I have to do is see if I can scan the inside of the manga without a)wrecking my manga; or b)chopping off the images.
Got through today
There isn't much to say...and I don't really feel much like going in to details...but...

The funeral service was lovely. Very sad...very tragic.

There are still no answers that are suitable...
Too Early
**yawns** Why am I awake? T_T It's too bloody early to be awake...especially after staying up 'til 3:30am. @.@

And my thumb hurts. -_-; I worked in Receiving yesterday...and my thumb shows it. Fabric + Dust + Repetetive Rubbing (hanging the clothes on hangers) = Dry, rough, split skin on my poor ol' thumb. T_T

Much too early to be awake. Have I mentioned that?

"Most people can't think, most of the remainder won't think, the small fraction who do think mostly can't do it very well. The extremely tiny fraction who think regularly, accurately, creatively, and without self-delusion – in the long run, these are the only people who count."

--Robert A. Heinlein
Sad Times
The hardest part of losing a beloved family memeber would have to be the question Why. Sometimes, the answer isn't comforting at all.

I had been under the impression that my cousin had died over the weekend. Apparently, I was mistaken. He died September 14, 2006...in Las Angeles, California.

Why? Why did it take so long for his family to know? Why did it take so long for him to finally come home?

I don't think we'll ever receive suitable answers to these questions.

How did he die?

He was stabbed 12 times.

And they classified it as a suicide.

I don't buy it. However, the only one who knows the absolute truth to this was my cousin himself. And he can't tell us now.

It's taken a few days to sink in. And now I'm finding myself in a bit of a state of shock over the whole thing.

The funeral is on Saturday...my boss gave me the time off for it...but I honestly don't know what I'm going to say to his parents, his sister, and his grandparents. All I can think of to do is give them all a hug and try not to blubber all over them myself.
Still Alive & Kickin'
Whew! For someone with no plans for Thanksgiving, I sure found myself strapped for time to do much more than blink and wonder "What happened?". **laughs**

So...to all my friends who celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday...HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Amazingly, I had the whole long weekend off...not sure how I managed that, but I certainly wasn't about to complain. Enjoy the rarity and ask no questions, that's my motto. :P

Went out to my brother's on Saturday for several reasons, the first being that we wanted a little visit. Hubby was a busy and industrious fellow. He fixed their washing machine, installed a yard light that ended up not working after all, loaded his quad on the trailer (brother was finished harrowing his yard and no longer needed it), and loaded the 429 into the back of the truck in a crate (Whao! Big block = HEAVY! I think hubby said around 700 lbs? not sure...I didn't try to lift it :P). To top it all off, we had a yummy dinner of buffalo roast, mashed potatoes, and kernal corn (I pretended to not see the salad ^_~).

Sunday and Monday were filled with cleaning the kitchen. >.> Have I mentioned that procrastination is like my middle name? Yeah. That's why it took two days. -_-;

Today I'm back to work. Yay. NOT!

Oh. Got some bad news this morning when I came over to my mom's house. Seems I have a funeral to attend on Saturday. My cousin's youngest son died yesterday (?). He was only 22. Very sad. I'll have to remember to talk to my boss today and ask if I could have Saturday off so I can drive to Saskatoon for the funeral. **sigh** I didn't know him very well (is the way of it when it comes to second cousins, I suppose), but out of respect for my cousin and especially my aunt and uncle, I'll go. If I can get the day off.

Other than that, not much is happening. Except that I have yet to watch the latest Naruto episode. Downloaded it yesterday, but have been too busy/lazy to actually watch it. Maybe I should do that, ne?

Mmm...that's about it. Basically, I just wanted to pop in and let all my friends know that I'm still alive and kickin' and the "turkey" didn't get me over the weekend. :P Which is good...I don't like turkey. **grinz**
Stuff Happenin' and...stuff :P
Went to Saskatoon on Saturday! W00T! Ate at my favourite Japanese restaurant (Otowa) and had my usual (Ginger Chicken...comes with miso soup, ginger chicken, rice, tempura mushroom, salad, tsukemono [Japanese pickle...kinda like marinated vegetables] and green tea). After this, we went to my favourite import store (a cute little Chinese store on 20th Street) and bought Pocky (Mmm...Pocky! Pocky makes the world go 'round!) and some "Hamtaro" candy (they're little balls of wafer-y type stuff covered with chocolate) and a hand painted fan (for my costume). Then we toured around a bit since we had no actual destination in mind...stopping at McNalley Robinson, THE meca of all bookstores! (Well, for me it is since I come from a relatively small city with only one SMALL bookstore that hardly caries anything in stock that I'm interested in...) and I spent about an hour just browsing around the awesome selections until I finally settled on a Heinlein book. I love Robert A. Heinlein's work! He's a fabulous science fiction writer. We popped into Petsmart, but were disappointed 'cause there were no kitties or puppies...only birds and fish (that were dying, incidentally...one tank had two floaters...more like half-eaten corpses on the bottom of the tank...ick). I had to stop in at a specialty store that deals with replica swords and such...and damn near bought a katana! It was a reverse-edge katana (totally impractical and probably would never work) which I'm taking a wild guess at, but am fairly certain that, it represents Himura Kenshin's sakabattou from Rurouni Kenshin, one of my all time favourite anime/manga series! Popped into a shoe store and bought a pair of sandal type things (specifically for my Halloween costume) at a great sale price.

Yesterday, I took my mom for a car ride out to Nipawin (about an 1 1/2 hour drive North East of me) to go see her friend...the one who said she'd make my kimono. **grinz** Well, once we got there we talked and drank coffee and laughed and examined her cross-stitch and other little doo-dads that she's been working on since we last went to visit. Finally, about 1pm we (mom's friend and I) went shopping for the fabric I needed. That was...hard. I couldn't make up my mind and when I did there wasn't enough fabric! I needed 5 yards...and there's no way to make 2 1/2 yards stretch into 5. O.o At least, not that I know of. **laughs** Well, about 1 1/2 hours later we were on our way back to her place...loaded with the fabric I needed and $105.00 poorer. T_T Fabric is expensive. I opted to use easy-to-care for cotton and broad cloth for the kimono. Silk or satin (sateen?) was much to expensive and I'd be afraid to wear it after. @.@ In a couple weeks I have to go back for the final hemming and stuff and then I can bring it home! Yay! I'm super excited about this. I've wanted a kimono for ages. =^_^=

Well...time to get in gear and at least try to accomplish something today. :P
I am a Spoiled Brat!
I know my hubby loves me. I know this for sure. He bought me and activated for me a brand new cell phone! =^_^= He said "I know it isn't exactly the one you wanted...but maybe this will do until we can get you the one you really want." **sparklie eyes** It's a phone and that's all that counts. Now he won't have to worry if I'm late coming home from work and I've worked late (he'll be able to call me to make sure I'm okay). And if I'm out & about and my mom needs to get ahold of me in an emergency, she can just call my cell. I'm just tickled pink! Oh yes...I'm such a spoiled brat. :P
That Time Again
I don't want to, but I have to get ready for work. >.> I have to leave in fourteen minutes or risk being late. :P And...>.>...I have yet to tame my hair. Is currently standing straight on end with the tiniest curl at the end. **laughs** Is really something else to see.

I have to make a mental note to myself to remember to make a phone call to one of my mom's friends either this evening or early tomorrow. I need to ask her if she'd be willing to help me out...for a fee of course...by making my Halloween costume for me. I can't sew. It's a sad fact. -_-; And I don't want to buy one of those cheesy ready-made-to-wear-and-oh-so-generic-it-hurts costumes you see in the stores all over the place.

I've already arranged to work Halloween. **laughs** I don't think they get a lot of requests to pick up a shift...usually for days off. :P

If mom's friend agrees to help me out, I need to get the pattern and material either tonight or tomorrow. Since I have Monday & Tuesday off, I should probably make arrangements to go to her place then. Since she lives in Nipawin, it's a good 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive. @.@ Not something I want to do on spur of the moment, mind you. Especially with my fuel tank reading a big, blaring E!

I'm not really sure what colour/pattern of fabric I should get. What would look good on a kimono? O.o Oh well. I'll decide on it when the time comes. First and foremost, I need to make certain that she's willing to do this for me.

Well...I now have 9 minutes...I better get in gear!

hope everyone hase a great day and weekend!

=^_^=

Jokes & Ha ha's: Hockey in Alberta
Hockey In Alberta...

Two boys are playing hockey on a frozen pond in Red Deer, Alberta, when one of the boys is suddenly attacked by a crazed Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, the other boy takes

his hockey stick, shoves it under the dog's collar, twists it, and breaks the dog's neck, saving his friend.

A reporter is strolling by, sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy. "Young Flames Fan Saves Friend From Viscious Animal" he starts writing in his book.

"But I'm not a Flames Fan" the little hero replies.

"Sorry, but as we are in Alberta, I just assumed you were" says the reporter and he starts writing again.

"Oilers Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack" he writes in his notebook.

"I'm not an Oilers fan either" the little boy says

"Oh, I assumed that everyone in Alberta was either for the Flames or the Oilers. What team do you root for?" the reporter asks.

"I am a Maple Leafs fan" the boy replies.

The reporter starts a new page in his notebook and writes: "Little Bastard from Ontario Kills Beloved Family Pet"
Jokes & Ha ha's: The Zipper
The Zipper

In a crowded city at a busy bus stop, a beautiful young woman wearing a tight leather skirt was waiting for bus.

As the bus stopped and it was her turn to get on, she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the first step of the bus.

Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg. She tried to take the step, only to discover that she couldn't!

So, a little more embarrassed, she once again reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little more, and for the second time attempted the step. Once again, much to her chagrin, she could not raise her leg.

With a little smile to the driver, she again reached behind to unzip a little more and again was unable to take the step.

About this time, a large Texan who was standing behind her picked her up easily by the waist and placed her gently on the step of the bus. She went ballistic and turned to the would-be Samaritan and screeched, "How dare you touch my body! I don't even know who you are!"

The Texan smiled and drawled, "Well, ma'am, normally I would agree with you, but after you unzipped my fly three times, I kind'a figured we was friends."
The Thigns We Do For Our Employers...
I stayed over at my mom's last night 'cause hubby was leaving this morning at 6am for work. He had to drive to La Loche (a northern community) and other surrounding communities as well today to fix their office equipment. I honestly didn't think I wanted to be awake that early. @.@ Which is why I opted to have a sleep over. ^_~

Well..10 minutes ago I was starting to get a tad worried 'cause I still hadn't heard from him. O.o So, I took a chance and called his cell. I say took a chance 'cause depending on where he is, there may not be cell phone coverage (kinda bites living where the towers peter out, ne?). Well, I lucked out and, though the signal was very weak and I could barely hear him, I did manage to get ahold of hubby. =^_^= He was still an hour away. -_-; Poor, poor hubby! He's probably just beat.

So, I asked him what he'd prefer...coming to pick me up...or just go home straight to bed. He opted for straight to bed...not that I can blame him. In his position, I'd choose the same. I suppose I could drive myself home... ... wait, I'd need my car keys for that...and I don't think I have them here. O.o Oops. Anyhoo...if I had my keys, I probably would still stay here...let him get his rest without bugging him. (I have a tendency, though well meaning at the time, to be somewhat irritating... >.> ... at least I can admit to it :P)

I think the worst of it all is that he has to be back at work first thing in the morning again. (Well, 8:30am...I guess that's not really first thing...). And that's after putting in 16 hours today! In all fairness, I think they should at least let him have the morning off...but when it comes to work/business, there's nothing fair about it. Either you want your job and therefore show up...or you don't, so you don't show up and end up with no job. -_-;

I still say that I'm very lucky to have such a wonderful manager and understanding supervisor. It's an awesome company to work for. I know I'm much happier with my co-workers and supervisors than hubby is with his.

The other day he mentioned that if he didn't have to worry about car payments and stuff he'd be tempted to quit his job and take a cut in pay to work for the same company I do...as long as he could work at the same store 'cause he really likes my manager. =^_^= Can't say as he's ever said that before about the other places I've worked. O.o Then again, for the most part I hated the other jobs I had...with the exception of one and that's just 'cause I liked the people I worked for (though in all honesty I hated the job itself).

On another tangent...

Has anyone heard/seen the latest Mini-Wheats commercial on television? The one with the tropical setting and the animated mini-wheats dancing around and singing? (Yes, I know, that really narrows it down, doesn't it? :P) Well...I'm addicted to it. Not the commercial per se...but the song, or rather, the tune. **laughs**

Mini-Wheats Commercial at YouTube.com
Note: This has very poor sound quality, but at least it gives an example of the commercial itself

Well, after searching around on the 'Net for a little while, I found that the tune for the Mini-Wheats commercial apparently came from a song called "Agadou" by Le Grand Jojo. (In French, of course. -_-; Several years ago, I wouldn't have cared...but over the intervening years I've lost most of my French. No one to practice with, therefore the old adage of not using something you end up losing it).

Well, yesterday, after talking with a friend from the UK, I found out that there is yet another version of this song! O.O It's also called Agadou, but it's performed by Black Lace and is in English.

And imagine my surprise when I found out that there is also an X-Rated version?! O.o I don't have a copy of that, though. **laughs** I did find it, but couldn't be bothered to try to download it at the time...I have a little thing called Lack of Patience. :P My Internet connection has been pure crap since I got my wireless router and the simplest of downloads takes freakin' forever! @.@

>.>

I think I'll stop now. I appear to be rambling...againg. **laughs** Story of my life, ne? :P
Jokes & Ha ha's: Buttercups
BUTTERCUPS:

Towards the end of the golf course, Dave hit his ball into the woods and found it in a patch of pretty yellow buttercups. Trying to get his ball back in play, he ended up thrashing just about every buttercup in the patch.

All of a sudden...POOF!! In a flash and puff of smoke, a little old woman appeared. She said, "I'm Mother Nature! Do you know how long it took me to make those buttercups? Just for doing what you have done, you won't have any butter for your popcorn for the rest of your life! Better still, you won't have any butter for your toast for the rest of your life. As a matter of fact, you'll never have any butter for anything the rest of your life!"

Then POOF!...she was gone!

After Dave recovered from the shock, he hollered for his friend, "Fred, where are you?"

Fred yells back "I'm over here in the pussy willows."

"DON'T SWING, FRED! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T SWING!"
