It's been too long...House Update
Posted 1/3/2007 7:57:35 PM Happy New Year everyone! It has been ages since I have posted, I know, but I have been extremely busy lately with the holidays and two kids with birthdays and of course the new house! Quick update on the house, since it has been so long. The basement is poured, and they started framing last Wednesday and today they finished framing the first floor! They have two crews working on it full time, so things are moving really fast right now. They hooked up propane to the basement today and they are going to start the rough-ins for the plumbing tomorrow and hopefully pour the basement floor next week sometime. Tonight for the first time we actually got to walk through our first floor and see they layout of the rooms and everything, since it is all framed, that was really exciting, since we designed this house from scratch. I am posted a picture that Scoots took tonight (not too exciting probably, but it is to us!). Hope you all had great holidays and I promise to post more soon!

New House Update
Posted 10/25/2006 12:24:21 PM I know it has been a while since I have posted any updates on the house, but as usual, everything seems to take two times longer to get done than it should. We finally had our meeting with the interior designer and builder on Monday (about 3 weeks later than we thought) and the meeting was a lot different than I was expecting. When we got there, the interior designer had little magnetic pieces of furniture to scale of the house drawings and was laying out furniture in the different rooms of the house. We had to tell her what furniture that we planned to bring to the house with us and what we wanted to get new (of course, I said that we were going to bring very little of our existing stuff ;) This is all really different and new to me, because I am used to moving what you have and figuring out a place for it, period! Whatever furniture that we are taking, I had to send her pictures of, so that she can start to figure out colors for the house, ect. Very different than what I am used to, which is white walls or whatever color is already there! We then went over the kitchen in length to see where cupboards were going to go and trash pullouts, ect. We had to pick what kind of floors that we wanted in each room of the house (tile, hardwood, carpet). Of course I want tile in a majority of the main floor, but we'll see if I have to change this our not, since tile is a lot more expensive than wood floors and our main floor is big. We then went over any little changes that we wanted to make to door placement, ect. The builder and interior designer are going to go pick out fixtures for the house later this week and I guess that we will approve or disapprove them. They said that we don't need to go, since she does this for a living and can do it very quickly. We are meeting with the builder and appliance people from two different places. Since Scott has his heart set on Viking appliances and they are extremely expensive and don't give discounts on their stuff, the builder wants us to meet with a Wolf and Thermador rep to see if we can get the appliances any cheaper through them. I know that Scott doesn't want to change the brand, but if we can save several thousand by doing so, then he will lose! ;) The builder already has the electrical, plumbing and foundation out for bid, so he said in about 10 days, we should have a 95-97% estimate of the cost of the house so that we can finally go to the bank with that and sign on our loan. It seems to be getting closer and the builder seems like he is ready to really get going on our house now, so maybe there will be a lot more frequent updates in the future. I'm really getting anxious, so I will post again after we figure out the appliance situation tommorrow!
New Home Blog
Posted 9/28/2006 10:01:53 AM Okay, I am going to start our new house blog now. We just had a meeting with our builder last night to go over the basement layout and when he gets this back from the drafter next week, we are going to have another meeting and meet with the designer and start picking out fixtures, flooring, ect for our house. I have to say that this will probably be the most difficult part of the whole process, because me and Scoots will have to try and agree on how we actually want our new home to look when it is all done. We actually had an easy time with the design of the house and agreed on almost everything, but the decorating may be another story! I'll keep you posted.
