Family & Friends: Tim's Birthday

Tim turned 31 yesterday! Old fart...I had to rub it in that I'm still in my 20's for a couple years!! Ha, ha...Sorry if you're reading this Tim!

We had dinner at Mahogany Prime Steakhouse...it was great! We had a bottle of wine and shared a lobster tail, king crab legs, and each had a filet mignon! It was a nice place and wasn't crowded! Oh, and we shared cheesecake too! Good thing Tim won the fantasy football pool at work - it covered most of our dinner!

It's more like Tim's 'birthday week' since we'll be having dinner at Mom & Dad's tomorrow & then eating out with Tom & Julie on Sat!

Bella called & serenaded Tim...sang Happy Birthday while we were at dinner. So cute.

We'll be heading out to Lemont next Friday for a long weekend. Michelle's not telling Bella so she'll be shocked when we come to the front door!

Joey - I'll address you directly as you're probably the only one who reads this on a regular basis! (Or so I hear!) I'll try to get that chicken wing recipe of my Dad's for you & bring it up. See you next week! :-)

Holidays: Happy New Year!

Here are photos of the dogs playing in the snow that fell on New Year's Eve!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We rang in the New Year at Aunt Nancy's. Steven was our entertainment until he went to bed...Uncle Steve made prime rib & we drank vodka slush and snacked on Dad's chicken wings, etc. Then we played Scene It trivia until the ball dropped in NYC. Happy 2007!

Holidays: Christmas Day

Christmas morning we headed over to Mom & Dad's for more gift opening and Tim's favorite breakfast - the chile stratta.

We brought Mitty over so he could run through the wrapping paper & ribbons since he never gets to at home with the dogs... I'm not so sure that Alex or Cosmo enjoyed having him over though.

Later in the day we headed over to Tom & Julie's to open more gifts and for a late lunch at 3:00 p.m.

Here's Lily dressed in her pretty Christmas dress.

Here I am with my 'buddy' Nico and Tim with Nico...

Later on we headed home to let the dogs out & change into comfy clothes. We still had Christmas goose & chocolate bread pudding to eat!

Holidays: Christmas Eve

We made cookies and headed over to Tom & Julie's house around 6:30 p.m. Michelle, Joey, Bella & Nico had just arrived from driving in from IL. They were supposed to drive in the day prior but Bella was sick. Luckily they made it to town in time for Christmas. It was a full house - Tom, Julie, Grandma Mary, Michelle, Joey, Bella, Nico, Jeff, Sarah, Lily & us! We had some Panera and opened a few gifts.

Here's Bella, one of Santa's reindeers...

Then we headed over the river & through the woods to Granny's house for some more celebrating...

Here's Steven dressed for his first Christmas.

We had prime rib, ham, and other sides for dinner around 9:00 p.m. I made the frozen vodka slush drink so we dipped into that before opening gifts.

Holidays: Christmas - Celebrating with Extended Family Dec. 22

We headed over to Aunt Dianne's house in Valley Fri. night.

Everyone brought sides & Dad made pizza. There was all kinds of food!

The kids all ran around playing & we all hung out.

The newest member of the family, Owen was dressed up as Santa. Here I am holding him...

Dad, Aunt Dianne, Aunt Christine & Aunt Donna pose for a photo...

Family & Friends: Jeff & Moose

We had Jeff, Sarah, Lily, Tom & Julie over for dinner in mid-December.

Here's Jeff in the kitchen holding Moose! Poor Jeff had to keep holding him while we searched for the camera to get this shot. Moose usually squirms if he thinks he's going to be held. He must like his 'uncle' Jeff. :-)

Family & Friends: Out to Dinner for Dad's Birthday

We had dinner for Dad's birthday Dec. 15th at Spezia's. Wouldn't you know that Andrea & I showed up wearing the SAME sweater! At least they were different colors. :-)

Dinner was good ~ I had duck & Tim & Dad had Osso Bucco. Mom & Andrea each had pasta dishes.

Pet Stories & Photos: Moose & Seizures

This has been a stressful week for us with Moose... He started having seizures Monday afternoon intermittently for approx. 15 min. We ended up rushing him to the vet & the seizure continued in the car but once we arrived to the vet he was back to normal & happily accepted several treats & then he kissed the Dr.! It appears that he’s having focal seizures which aren’t as bad as generalized or Grand Mal but could lead to that if left untreated. We were given Diazepam (Valium) & instructed to give 4 tablets into his rectum at each onset of a seizure. This is meant to halt the seizure to avoid damage, etc.

Moose was fine until (that we knew of anyway) until Friday morning after Tim had left for work before 6 a.m. Moose was in bed with me & started having a seizure again. Maggie was jumping all over him & I didn’t want him to fall off the bed… It was chaotic! I managed to get Maggie in her kennel but Moose ended up following me downstairs. The seizure seemed to intensify & then let up for about 20 min. straight. I did manage to give him 2 of the 4 tablets but then he was back to normal.

Tim took off work at noon & brought him back to the vet for blood work & observation. He had to leave him there & Moose kept following Tim back out…Tim felt bad abandoning him at the vet office. Maggie was beside herself when Tim returned home without Moose but luckily he came home a little while later.

Now we have Phenobarbital (anti-seizure medication) to give Moose twice a day for the next month. Hopefully that works. What’s scary is we don’t know how often he really has the seizures since they typically occur at night (at rest) and he sleeps in his kennel most nights.

Pet Stories & Photos: The Animals are Ready for Christmas!

Here Moose & Maggie look down the stairs as Tim prepares a fire in the fireplace...No, it's not Santa. :-)

Mitty, Moose, & Maggie enjoying the holiday decor last weekend.

Family & Friends: Granny's 75th Birthday Party - Open House Nov. 25, 2006

Granny is 75!!!

The party/open house was held at Shawn's house for Granny's friends to come wish her a happy 75th. There were drinks, cake & mixed nuts served.

Steven was the entertainment for us as we waited for people to start arriving. Here he is with Alyssa.

Here are the Bitch sisters & QB

Here are the girls...that were present. Michelle didn't make it out so she's not here.
From back row, left to right:
Debbie, Gloria, Nancy, Teen, Shawn, Jody, Granny, Alyssa, Lia & Andrea.

Holidays: Happy Thanksgiving - Nov. 23, 2006

Happy Thanksgiving!

We spent the first half of the day cleaning and relaxing on our day off from work. Then we headed over to Tim's parents house for dinner at 2:00 p.m.

Grandma Mary, Jeff, Sarah & Lily were also there.
Food was really good (especially the apple pie Julie made). Love the crumbly top crust!

Then we headed over to Granny's around 6:00 p.m. for dinner a second time! Can't beat Granny's mashed potatoes or Dad's corn casserole. :-)

Joe was sick so he wasn't there...Steven was too - poor thing! Alyssa was getting over a cold & now I'm getting it!

It was Granny's actual birthday so she opened gifts - and we all watched the DVD slide show I made for her. I think she really liked it...she cried 3 times. :-)

We also celebrated Andrea's & Alyssa's birthday.

Then we had to draw names for the Christmas gift exchange. Emily was in charge as usual! :-) And she's sneaky too - trying to see who everyone had... She's almost as bad as Aunt Nancy & Aunt Teen!!

Family & Friends: Beloved Stanley - RIP - 11/19/2006

Stan was the family dog of Tom & Julie (Tim's parents). He lived a great doggie life in all his 16+ years but was put down on Sunday.

They saw a picture of Stan on TV when he was around 1-2 yrs old & Tim insisted they go get him. The rest is history. While Stan became a bit grumpy in his old age I always made a point to see him or pet him when I visited. He was part of the family & will be missed.

RIP Stan & take care of Spooner for me.

Trips & Travel: Trip to Chicago/Lemont: November 9th-13th, 2006

Poor Tim had to stay back on this trip. Too busy with the opening of Cabela's to take any vacation time. Michelle wanted me to come out with Tom (Julie had baby duty with Lily) so I took that opportunity to go out and see the kids & the new house.

Thursday, 11/09/06 - Arrive to Chicago

Tom & I were picked up at the airport by Michelle & kids. Bella had all kinds of things to tell me & Nico just stared at me for awhile. He was a bit scared because I had my glasses on but once I took them off he was fine! :-) Michelle said he doesn't like glasses on people for some reason.

We picked up some dinner and then spent most of the evening packing little things in preparation for the move. Michelle & I watched Grey's Anatomy much to the dismay of Joey. :-) He thought it was a slutty version of ER...well, I guess in a way he's right. :-)

Friday, 11/10/06 - Moving Day

We all woke up early & prepared for the move from the townhouse in Chicago to the newly built home in Lemont. Tom stayed back with Joey while Michelle, the kids & I headed to the house with a van full of stuff.

New home in Lemont

We unloaded the van & then Michelle headed back to Chicago...Bella & I played her version of Candyland in her new playroom while Nico was napping & the rest of the family was back at the other place with the movers. She loved that my camera had a self-timer on it so we of course had to do it a few times!

We spent most of the day unpacking & putting things away. It was funny because I was about the only one who knew where anything was for awhile. I kept hearing, "Lia, where are the batteries?"; "Lia, where are the scissors?"; "Lia, where are the M&M's?". Michelle went to put away some towels in the kitchen that I had brought out from the playroom...she said she had to laugh because the drawer she picked I had already put towels in earlier...Smart minds think alike I guess! :-)

Friday night was the mommy/daughter night at preschool but Michelle asked if I'd do it. It was POURING rain that night & we were soaked just walking out to the van. When we got there the teacher wasn't even there (stuck in traffic) but eventually more people showed including the gal running the show.

They had different 'stations' for the kids to go to...1) Decorate picture frame 2) Make beaded bracelet 3) Makeup, hair clip & paint nails 4) Dress up. Bella put some glittery eyeshadow on me. I think her favorite part was putting on makeup.

I painted Bella's nails - she chose green of all colors!

Bella all dressed up!

Me & Bella - yes, 'Auntie Lia' dressed up a little too. :-)

Saturday, 11/11/06 - Settling In

There was so much going on this day...the storage Pods were delivered & Joey came unglued when they tried to charge them an extra $500 because THEIR truck broke down the day before causing the delay...then the lady with the blinds came & Joey wasn't liking the price or what was picked out...then a friend of Michelle's along with her husband & kids stopped by unannounced during all of the chaos! I just kept unpacking/organizing stuff with Nico on my arm. He was my little buddy all weekend.

Nico hanging out in Bella's room - He's really crawling around now!

Bella is a great photographer for a 3 year old (almost 4). Here we are hanging out in Bella's pink room where she insisted on taking our photo.

I was tired of eating fast food & thought we should have something yummy for dinner so I suggested making cornflake chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy. We got to test out the new appliances & I have to say I think I could use a kitchen like that one!

Sunday, 11/12/06

Sunday was a bit more calm & luckily they finally had cable installed. Michelle, Tom & Bella took off to run errands while I stayed back with Nico & Joey. After I put Nico down for his nap I tackled the playroom. I couldn't take it-it was just too much stuff in one room! It was funny because I'd go out to the kitchen periodically & Joey would be sitting watching football but I think it motivated him to get up knowing I was working so hard. He was unpacking the stuff from storage in the basement.

Later on, Bella & I headed over to the park but it was really chilly outside. We walked around the neighborhood looking at a few houses & then headed back inside.

We picked up pizza & mostaccioli for dinner but the pizza wasn't the best.

Monday, 11/13/06 - Heading Home

Bella had preschool in the morning and before we knew it we were heading to the airport. It was nice to see them & to really get to know Nico since he was such a stranger before! I pretty much have his schedule down since I fed him, changed his diapers & put him down for his nap each day! I loved his smile every time I picked him up. Bella is sure growing up fast & talks your ear off! I told Michelle I would lay down at night & could still hear "Auntie Lia, Auntie Lia" in my mind! Michelle says she takes after 'Uncle Timmy' in that way-which is easy to believe!! It was nice to see Michelle & Joey again too. Can't wait to see them all again in December...

Pet Stories & Photos: Bad Dog! Moose the Cleptomaniac... And Mitty the Chip-Eating Cat

So back on a few Saturday's ago, I was out front raking some leaves away from the front door when I happened to look up at the front door & noticed the dogs standing there watching me.

At first I just glanced over but then did a double-take when I saw that Moose had a pair of my underwear hanging out of his mouth.

Rather than start a wild goose (or Moose) chase in attempt to 'get them back' I decided to 'ignore' him so he would just drop them & find something else to entertain himself...

So I went back inside when I finished raking the leaves & at the same time Tim came home from work. I told him to help me look for the missing underwear but we couldn't see them anywhere & had to get ready to leave for dinner.

The weekend passed, and we sort of forgot about the whole incident...that is, until Monday morning about 6:30 AM when I went to let the dogs in from outside. Thank goodness I actually looked at them prior to opening the door in my groggy state of mind...only to see those missing underwear I had been looking all over for-hanging out the back end of Moose!

OMG!!! Needless to say it took quite a while before he was able to come inside...without the underwear. :-)

So a couple days later I go out to lunch w/Mom, Granny & Andrea. Andrea laughs histarically at the story... Oh ya-I forgot to mention that Mitty was also bad that day-he ate through a bag of potato chips sitting on the counter!
I'm surprised he didn't open the fridge for the dip & crack open a beer!

Anyway - I get back to work after lunch & there's a voice mail from Tim so I call him back. He was off that day & doing yardwork (raking the backyard & mowing, etc.)

So he asks me, "How many pairs of underwear did you say Moose took?". I said I didn't have time to chit-chat, and said, "One-why??". Tim said, "Try 6!!!!!!!" Yep, 6 pairs of my favorite underwear-GONE!

He must've been sneaking them out of the laundry when I was taking a shower or something because aside from that Sat. where I saw him with them, I never have seen him trying to take them, especially not eat them!!!

I figure the neighbors (if they noticed) probably thought I crapped my pants & tossed them out back every now & then. Oh my GOD! What ever am I going to do with these animals!?!

Family & Friends: Niece Lily's Baptism - November 5, 2006

Lily was baptised on Sunday, 11/05/06 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Omaha.

Godparents were Michelle & Joey but they were not in attendance. Tom & Julie stood in for them.

Uncle Tim had to work that day so I went solo, riding with Jeff, Sarah & Lily.

Grandma Mary bought dinner at Mr. C's for us all.

Here's a photo after the baptism ceremony...

Pet Stories & Photos: Recent Photos of Mitty, Moose & Maggie

Here's Mitty sitting on the desk Sunday morning while I worked on the invitation for Granny's 75th b-day...Why he chose that of all places is beyond me!

Here's Moose being naughty...lounging on the chair that's 'off-limits'. Of course I had to snap some pics before making him get down!

Here's the 'princess' Maggie looking innocent & sweet...looks can be deceiving!

What's New Now: Tim's New Job - Cabela's

Well last night was the first night of shopping at Cabela's! (For employee's & their families)

We bought a cart-full of stuff...little Maggie-do even got a new bed! Moose got some glucosamine treats for his bad joints. Mitty got screwed - Cabela's doesn't sell stuff for cats. Sorry Mitts...

We bought a few sweatshirts & Tim some new shoes to wear while walking around at work all day!

The store looked a lot different with merchandise packed all over the floor! Last time I was there it was pretty empty except for all the taxidermy...

Carrie & Todd showed up at the same time as me so we walked in together...Mom & Dad showed up a little while later. Dad bought some boots. Tom, Julie, Sarah & Lily showed up later in the night and shortly thereafter Jeri, Tom & Joe were there. Shawn, Joe & Steven also came in. Before we left Janis, Tom, Christine & Terry came in...poor Christine just returned from China a few hours earlier!

The store did well that night! Tim said out of the last 7 stores opened it was 2nd highest in sales for that night. Guess we helped it get there! :-)

Holidays: Halloween: Annual Pumpkin-Carving Party at the Cabin was 10/28/06

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

We had a great time Saturday at the cabin...Unfortunately Tim had to work late so he was unable to attend. :-(

We had chili, corn bread, nachos & other snacks during the crappy NE football game. Thought the Huskers were doing better... Oh well, there's always next year! At least we had something to keep ourselves occupied during the game - carving the pumpkins.

The babies on Joe's side of the family all sat together for a quick snapshot...all dressed in their winter sweaters!

We had picnic tables set up around the bon fire...the kids did some Halloween tie-dye shirts (the non-messy kind) and some had their pictures taken in the stands with face cut-outs we made a few weeks ago.

It was also Ryan's 30th b-day so I decided to make his card - in the form of a pumpkin! Shawn made him a 'litter box cake' & boy did it look real! Mom & Dad gave him a witch hat (he likes goofy hats) and we gave him beer...can't go wrong with beer.

Aunt Teen & Alyssa drove up from Olathe, KS to join in the fun.

Luckily my pals Emily & Elizibeth were there to assist me with the removal of the 'guts' of the pumpkins before carving...Andrea did a funny with her pumpkin - she wondered why it was SO HARD to carve the intricate design until she realized that the 'guts' had not been removed yet!! We all had a good laugh.

The kids all had fun taking shots at the pinatas that Granny & Mom made.

After dark we put all of the carved pumpkins along the edge of the deck & railing. Oooohh...Aaahhh..

Then we sat around the bon fire & had warm apple cider before taking the hayrack ride out to the woods...where the tractor broke down several times! We actually saw a few deer sprinting in the field as the tractor passed by. Larry held the light up so all could see.

Andrea's Dad's (he was original too-can you read the message?) Mom's

My design...I didn't 'cheat' with those patterns! Thanks Andrea for telling me to just make up my own...

Family & Friends: Baby Steven - 2nd Cousin

This was taken at Shawn's b-day in September. Steven was 'posing' for the camera all night long. He likes to push up onto his side & pose...

Here he is at just over 7 months

Family & Friends: Headin' to Chicago...

I'll be heading to Chicago in November with my FIL, Tom. We're flying out to help Michelle & Joey with the big move to the 'burbs.

I talked to Bella & Michelle today over my lunch time...I'll be taking Bella to 'Glamour Night' the Friday they move so she won't have to miss it. (Michelle will be a little busy sorting through things, and it's too hard with Nico). That should be a fun thing for us to do! I'm sure Bella will be quite the character as usual... The new house should be neat to see too.

It'll be nice to just go somewhere...too bad Tim's not going since he'll be at work every day. :-( Mom's going to make sure the dogs are taken care of while I'm gone.

I'll post an update in Nov. when I return...

What's New Now: Tim's New Job - Cabela's

Well Tim's been working in the new store for a month now getting it all ready to open next week! I feel like I barely see him anymore! We BOTH cannot wait for him to finally have a day or two off again.

Monday night will be employee family night so the family is all heading over to do some shopping! I haven't been inside the store for a month so I'm sure it's filled up compared to when I was there...now with all the merchandise they have.

Next Thursday will be the ribbon-cutting ceremony where they will unveil the store 'legend' (statue outside in front of the store). We 'might' have an idea of what it is but our lips our sealed. Shh! It's top secret with the store that they don't even let most employees know what it will be.

Maybe in another month Tim will have a more 'normal' schedule & we can resume 'real' life again!

What's New Now: Lia's 10 year high school reunion - MSHS

Friday - 10/20/2006 - Brewskey's

It was fun to see people again. Many familiar faces...most people haven't changed that much aside from being married or their careers. It felt like being in a time warp for a few hours. Luckily Tim found a couple guys to hang out with while I mingled. There were quite a few faces I didn't recognize though, and it's hard to know if they were spouses or just people I never knew. Mr. Cooney was there-that was funny to see him again! It's funny how you leave high school and everyone leaves & does their own thing. Moving away, etc. Considering the number of people in our grad. class there really weren't that many people at the reunion. Makes me wonder what all of them are up to...also makes me wonder again about my old Kadena High Scool friends.

L to R: Me before we left, Tim hanging with other guys, Me & Amy, Stacy & Amy

Saturday - 10/21/2006 - The Georgetown Club

Sat. was more fun. The ice was 'broken' on Friday so it felt a bit more comfortable. Saw Amy's mom when we checked in. We spoke for a few & then made our way into the hall. They gave us name tags to wear & as we started walking away Tim was putting his away - once they told him he couldn't get drinks without it I said, "Oh, he'll put it on now!" It was funny but you had to be there... Anyway we mingled with people, some who were not there on Friday. Joan was there with her husband & he and Tim hit it off right away...the way they chatted all night you would have thought it was HIS reunion! :-) Tim also ran into a guy from Jeff's fraternity who is now married to Rayna so they caught up. The DJ played music from our 'era' and they also did a slide show of photos from Jr. & Sr. high. Yikes! It was funny to see those old photos again. Hard to believe how fast time has flown. We danced the night away until we finally decided to go home. All in all it was a good time.

Pet Stories & Photos: Mitty the dog food bandit strikes again!

This is one strong cat! At 3:00 AM on Tuesday we wake up to hear him 'breaking in' to the dog food container once again.

We thought we had outsmarted him because there's a place on the container where the lid matches up & two holes align...so you could use a lock or something. Tim stuck a pencil through it (horizontally) and then phone books on top along with some more duct tape.

When I went out to the kitchen I discovered the bin was pushed about 2 ft away from the wall, turned around, phone books off, and pencil - OUT!

And Mitty was finishing some food he just ate. Uhhh!!!!

Guess we need to invest in a real lock for it now!

Evidence - one of several attempts:

Pet Stories & Photos: Mitty, the dog food bandit

Here is the culprit at his favorite hang-out spot, the kitchen. Looks like he's trying to find a new way into the dog food bin!

This is an older photo, but just this morning I had to remove the phone books from it (he learned how to move phone books!) and reverted back to duct tape for the time being. He's nearly chewed it off in a matter of minutes.

If it weren't for his 15lb body you'd think we never feed him!

Family & Friends: Kenny Chesney Concert - April 2006

Cousin Alyssa drove up from Olathe to Omaha with a friend & went with Tim & I to the Kenny Chesney concert in April. We had a great time in our 3rd row seats - thanks to Uncle Steve!

I managed to catch the drum stick from Dierks Bentley. That was cool. Now what the heck do I do with it!?

Sugarland opened & Uncle Kracker made a surprise appearance!

Me & Alyssa - toward the end of the night

We were all hungry after the concert so we went to Old Chicago downtown. That's where I lost an earing down the side of the booth & we couldn't get it out of there. They 'said' they would look after hours & call me back. Needless to say it's a gonner! Good thing they weren't expensive!

Family & Friends: Michelle & Joey (and family)

Michelle & Joey are still living in Chicago as they prepare to move in November. Their house is still being finished but is near completion.

I might go out with Tom in November when they move to help out, to see the kids & the new house in the suburbs.

Family & Friends: Andrea

Here are the latest photos of Andrea. She's back to the 'real life' now that she's home from her trip to Europe end of Aug/beg Sept. Still talking to Jerry & now she decided to quit smoking!

Go Big Red...even Cosmo is dressed for the game!

Andrea in Europe.

Holidays: Halloween 2006

10/7/06:

We went to Shawn & Joe's house to make the cardboard Halloween posters for the cabin on the 28th. It took us a little while but it was a nice day to paint outside.

Granny & Andrea helped critique our work (Martha & Martha Jr.)

Uncle Steve even stopped by to help draw the ghost but he wasn't happy when he returned & it was changed from his original design!! :-)

We had fun 'testing' them out for the kids...Here's Aunt Nancy posing as the witch & Shawn as the ghost.
